great price good product
I love this set - The chess pieces stick form. They fit well in the box. It's not messyfor the price the board is great - It's not inlayed wood so I do expect it to fae scratch and age sooner, but so far it has stood its ground.

Beautiful craftsmanship at a bargain price!
My teenage son purchased this set to use when traveling and was thrilled to receive such a nice set at such a reasonable price. He didn't realize that the pieces were magnetic at the time he placed the order, so this was a nice bonus for him. This is a very well made little chess set with inset wood and dovetail corners, and has been sanded to a very smooth finish. There were no gaps in the inset pattern and the wood appeared to be two different varieties of wood rather than one variety stained two different colors. The magnets were strong enough to hold the chess pieces if turned completely upside down. The burlap storage bag is lined in a satiny material to protect the set from scratches. The storage compartment inside of the set appeared to be a velvety covered foam and had indentations to hold each chess piece securely in place. The only fault I could find with this set is that when it is open it doesn't quite lay perfectly flat, but it is such a minor fault that it doesn't warrant the loss of a star.My brother does some woodworking and is a perfectionist. Could he have done a better job? Yes, he would have made sure that the set was perfectly flat when open. Would he have charged $21? Absolutely not! He would have charged several times more! The quality craftsmanship of this set is a bargain at $21!

Item came damaged, the hinge on the right side was broken and falling off. You can imagine how I felt, not having checked the item before gifting it to my husband for his desk, and finding it broken.

Lots of imperfections, ultimately charming
As a few reviewers have mentioned, nothing on the set or the packaging says SouvNear, and it did not come with a travel bag or extra queens. The pieces are also not as glossy as the set in the picture. I purchased mine in 2017 from the seller “ArtistHaat” and I can’t be sure if ones from other sellers are the same product or not. I got mine for $18 and I’m pretty happy with it, but honestly I wouldn’t recommend paying more. I’ve found it enjoyable despite the flaws, and I’ve played against one person with larger fingers than mine and he didn’t mind either. Other people may find the size more annoying. The stuff I like:Doesn’t take up a lot of space on my desk, but not small enough to be frustrating. The pieces are sized well relative to the square size, it doesn’t feel crowded and there’s enough space for your fingers. Magnets are good strength, I can turn the board sideways or upside down and a few of the pieces slide a little but don’t fall off the board. They’ll come off if the board is shaken or jostled too hard, but you can bump them gently or carry the board across the room without messing up a position. The pieces are simple but fine, not ugly or hard to tell apart. Board lays not quite flat when opened, but near enough that it doesn’t bother me. Some reviewers mentioned issues with the board warping, I haven’t encountered that.Stuff I don’t like:Some of the magnets are seated at a weird angle, not quite flush with the base of the piece and so the piece doesn’t quite sit flat. Other pieces appear to have come from slightly different sets, for example, the crosses on the two kings are not the same, and the base of the black king is slightly smaller. Didn’t take long for green felt to start to peel off the bases of the pieces, I’m planning to glue it down at some point. Possibly because of the way the foam storage insets are aligned, the pieces can bump into each other when you try to fold the board closed. You have to kind of shove one set of pieces up a little, but once they’re properly positioned it stays closed.

Quality tiny set
I am a chess enthusiast and collect sets, I own dozens. This tiny set is amazing for the price, the quality of the board, the quality of the pieces, is far above many competitors at higher prices. Get this set if you are looking for a tiny travel set or analysis board!

Not gift material
I bought 3 of the 7 inch chess sets thinking to gift them to different friends, but unfortunately the quality is so miserable that you can't use them as a gift. The lock on all 3 sets are corroded and rusty and look simply bad. The hinges are covered on the inside with fabric, but on the outside you can see the rust too.The set itself looks okay if you don't mind 1mm thick black lines between the individual little squares of the board, on about 1/3 of the whole play area. There's no second queen. This queen is not in the description, but you can clearly see her in several of the product's pictures. It was also the deciding factor for me why I ordered this set, and yes I'm disappointed that there's only 1 queen included. The game pieces are well made for the most part, but several have discolorations. The pieces are magnetised, but it's so weak don't think that you can pick the board up; the pieces will fall off. Some magnets are stronger than others, but most are very weak, and unusable for the purpose of traveling.Because I really wanted to gift these 3 sets I entertained the idea of maybe spending some extra money and replacing the lock latch, and then polish everything up a bit more to make it representable, but it looks like they placed the lock before the set was treated with a wood sealer, and without being able to find the same lock (that covers exactly the same are) it would show untreated wood. So any idea I tried to come up with to make these sets representable as a gift failed. I will most likely return them.I have a pretty old 7" set very similar to these that I had for many years now, but despite its age it overall looks better than these "new" sets.I'm really disappointed, and can't recommend the set, not even at its rather frugal price ($13.90 from RudraExports).
