Great for Karaoke songs. Great value
The operation is fairly easy. I have convinced my friends to move away from DVD recorder. The only drawback is that audio quality is degraded when comparing to the source. You lose quality on high and mid frequencies, and by contrast the low end appears to be exaggerated. Even that, most Karaoke people don't have sharp ears and not picky. They have lived their lives with poor quality karaoke songs on DVD. This gadget actually is an improvement to what they had before.

Works every time, no heat issues
This card works very well and every time, impressive. I setup a 2TB hard disk (USB3.0, WD EasyStore) with a MBR partition and FAT32 file format (both are required and both are archaic). My hard disk is powered via the USB3.0 port and the card itself is powered from a quick charge charging cable (2.5 amp, not regular slow charger). I do wish it had a switch/button & related LED indicator so as to enable/disable the USB storage port, otherwise you must power down this card in order to power down the USB hard disk before you can disconnect the USB. Pulling a live/hot USB connection can/might well blow out the drivers of a USB hard disk.I capture at 720p 60hz, but you have to change the source video resolution down to 720p in order to achieve this. If you feed this card 1080p 60hz you will get 1080p 30hz... which seems to flicker (for me). The video files produced are completely uncompressed and are split into ~2MB chunks... you have to edit and compressed the video output files back into something more of a normal compression in order to reasonable play these, expect non-smooth playback of these uncompressed files even on your desktop. Once compressed then pretty much everything will like them.I haven't tested the audio input jack (don't need it). I think other reviewers would have mentioned it though if there were issues here, so I assume it works also.

Poor video and audio recording
Recorded audio was just a static hiss, and recorded video was very "jumpy" - very low frame rate. Not worth it.

Works as described
I've only tried it once, but it worked as described. It also included an instructional manual (i.e. many new devices nowadays don't even come with one) that was actually helpful, and which was written in proper English (rare nowadays). It also included a mini CD with video editing software (which I haven't tried yet). The only drawback is that because of the high resolution capture (frame rate of 59 frames per second), it used about 8GB of storage space per each hour of recording. Ideally it would nice if there was someway to choose the frame rate; but I think because of the nature of its performing an asynchronous capture, maybe it needs to be that way. Perhaps after stitching the ~15-minute-long segments (about 2GB each) together, convert the file to a lesser frame rate and/or pixel resolution would dramatically reduce the file size of the finished complete video.Overall though I was extremely pleased with everything,

Only works in a "specific" way.
Heads up.I purchased this to record gameplay on my N64 (using HDMI connections). It took me a bit to figure this out and tinker with it as I was having a few problems with recording. I thought this product was defective at first and was about to return it, but with many other brands requiring a computer and being expensive, I tried to see if I could "troubleshoot" the issues first. I still think this item is not the best designed for the following issues:1) If I plugged the USB power cord into a USB drive for power, it severely overheated and caused my video to glitch. I also had to keep my capture card standing up on its side so that the holes on the bottom of the device would be on the side to provide ventilation.2) If I plugged the power cord using an AC adapter (at the specified voltage & amps, not provided) straight into a wall outlet, it wouldn't record sound for some reason. Only by plugging it into a surge protector did it record sound. Not sure how a surge protector deals with sound exclusively - and I'm still scratching my head on that one.3) It would NOT take any brand of flash drive other than SanDisk for me. It would also not take anything higher than a 32gb (2.0), despite the description stating it could take up to a 128gb. Any attempt to use another brand (such as PNY or Omni) or a 128gb, the video would either glitch, freeze, or not allow playback at all. All of my flash drives are FAT32 as required according to the description/manual.In short, IF the power cord is attached with a 5V2A AC adapter (not provided), which is then plugged into a surge protector, and then only using a 2.0 SanDisk 32gb or lower, then it seems to work. Rather this is all due to a defect in the item or not, I do not know. If these specifics are supposed to be required, then it should have been noted on the description. For that reason, I give it 2 stars.

Great HDMI captures.
This is a simple and small recorder, that will record on a flash drive stick, anything that is coming through an HDMI cable. It does not play back video. It has an HDMI loop through. I primarily use it from my DVR to TV. I’ve been able to save old TV shows and take them off the DVR drive space. One button record. Very simple. Using exFAT on flash drive makes it record in 8 minute segmented files. These segments can be combined easily with any video edit software. I transfer these videos to my media drive on my computer. Very good quality video but audio levels are low. There isn’t any way to make adjustments on the box. Easily corrected in post production. It can be left in the monitor loop but must remain plugged into power to pass the signal through the HDMI cables. It does get warm. I pull it out when not in use. More than I expected for an inexpensive and tiny box. I have only used it for a few hours so I can’t say how well it holds up to steady use.
