'Songs and Instrumentals' are two distinct collections, both written and recorded in April after Big Thief's March tour was abruptly cut short due to coronavirus. After returning to the states from Europe, band member Adrianne Lenker, decamped to a one room cabin in the mountains of western Massachusetts. This recording is 100% analog-analog-analog (AAA). No digital process was used in the production of this sound recording and the album's stunning artwork are watercolor paintings done by Adrianne's grandmother, Diane Lee.

beautiful.
every song is a cosy, autumnal vibe with just adrianne and her guitar. also contains a fold-out note sheet with details about the making of this album during covid. has been constantly in and out of my cd player since i got it

I’m in love
This really is the most beautiful record I’ve heard these last twelve months. I adore Big Thief and so I was already in love with Adrianne Lenker‘s voice, but this record is a little more stripped back on the first disc, so be prepared to fall in love all over again. Her voice is just so sweet and gentle and playful, and hearing her sing these songs is a privilege. The second disc of instrumental stuff is similarity sweet, but just lacks the tenderness of her voice.

Love it
In my opinion one of the best records of last year, I just love this. You can really ferl the atmosphere of the cabin. Sounds great in vinyl... Love it.

Songs 8 Instrumentals 3
Songs album really good and still growing on me. One of my favourite albums of the year. Don’t think I’ll be playing the instrumentals again though
