Some colors are super dry some are super wet.
They will do. I like my Holbeins better, but the two work very well together.

The Gold Standard for portraits
I've read so much about these pencils from professional artists. That's where I'm going, So I got the Portrait set. It's perfect! I love the colors, which have infinite combinations. They are archival, so I trust my portrait commissions to them. They arrived in perfect condition in a very nice box, but I keep them out of the box b/c they're easier to use. The artists are right. Caran d'Ache is the best way to go.

These pencils are so creamy and allow you to layer easily. They sharpen without breaking and stay sharp. This color set is perfect for colored pencil portraits. They are worth every penny. If you are on the fence, jump off! These pencils are an artist dream.
