Mafia: Definitive Edition
*4 and a half out of 5*Having played Mafia 2 (excellent) and Mafia 3 (fine) and never the original, I was heavily anticipating this remake of the first game to see where it all began. The game will take you around 10 hours to complete and features a much more linear and straightforward story structure and presentation than its sequels. The story follows taxi driver Tommy Angelo join the Salieri crime family as he becomes swallowed by the lifestyle and gains as much respect as he does enemies. This is a classic gangster crime caper whilst also being a focused and character heavy look at the world of Mafia members. With the game being a full on remake of the original PS2 release with the current engine that developer Hangar 13 created Mafia 3 on. However this is far less buggy and glitchy than the third instalment and it’s clear how much dedication and time went into this project. The game looks fantastic in motion, with a variety of weather effects, the extremely detailed world of 1930’s Lost Heaven and the well animated and voice acted characters, give the game a very cinematic feel.Gameplay is very much a refined approach to the previous games third person shooting, sneaking and driving. The gunfights are satisfyingly visceral and the sound design is booming and cracking as bullets fly and explosions go off. The car chase missions are intense and bombastic with great spectacle and the variety of missions and fast pace of the game’s story will hook you.In terms of negatives there are really only a few minor gripes. One of which is that the story can feel jumpy at times with a lot of events happening off screen and I wish it was longer just because of how much I was enjoying it. It can be a little clunky at times (especially the motorcycle handling) and there is some minor graphical pop in from time to time. This is certainly one of the best remakes of the generation and is probably my favourite of the Mafia games. The story and characters are great, the gameplay is straightforward but a lot of fun and the graphical overhaul and detail and time put into it really stands out.

High quality game
Arrived on time and in excellent condition the game itself has mostly good gameplay with reasonably good gunplay with a intuitive cover and movement system but recoil. And gun sound effects could be better the driving feels. Good and authentic to the 1930s as does the games general aesthetic the story is extremely high quality with good animations textures voice acting lighting and characters that feel real and authentic I only wish the game itself was longer but its length helped the game from dragging on and aided in it maintaining its quality

One Of the Best Mafia games
Well I never got the chance to play this game on the ps2 and I wished I did guys. what a classic gangster game, it feels like goodfellas film was. I was surprised that this was a very fast game to play and finish. I finished this game in 5 days. This game is very fast, like it has a fast pace to the storyline where as mafia 2 is longer from my point of view but both games have a very good story. The only thing that puts me off is the rubbish gameplay, and the game still feels restricted meaning that you can only do certain things in the story, while you do have free ride mode which means you can play the game and do anything you want but it won't be affecting the story. Like when you play GTA and Red Dead Redemption games you can do anything you want within the game like free play is not a separate mode. But omg guys the gameplay is rubbish, this really put me off while I was playing this game, I have always felt that the mafia gameplay controls have always been rubbish but even mafia 2 was ok. I wished Rockstar took over this game and used their gameplay controls, they way you beat people up in this game feels bad, its like I am controlling a robot, while in GTA and red dead it feels so real. But what makes me want to play this game again, is the story and the cinematic scenes in this game. I would give this game 4/5 stars.

The best of the trilogy.
I had this on PC years ago when it was originally released and really enjoyed it. The two sequels played on PS3 and PS4 were OK but not really memorable. I was worried this would look dated as a remaster but they have done a fantastic job. The graphics are as good as any new release on PS4 and it still has great atmosphere and cinematic direction. If you experienced this back in the day on PC its well worth revisiting and if you have played Mafia 2 & 3 but not the original i'd seriously recommend giving this a go. Its the best of the series as far as I'm concerned.

Much improved on the original
Plays a lot better than the original in pretty much every way.In the original (ps2) I found it odd bullets seemed to be nothing more than air being shot out. It was as if they’d not developed and rendered the bullet holes etc. This has been fixed thankfully. The graphical update brings it up to modern standards and it had a smooth frame rate throughout the campaign. This is the best version to play and if you’ve never played it and like open world games like gta then you should like this.

Nothing special
I had higher expectations from the game. The city is vast but feels lifeless. Outside of the linear missions and story line I could not find much else to do. Such a shame that the city could not be explored with some side missions of some sort

Great game, a joy to play again
This game is just what it says on the tin;it's the original Mafia game but remastered for the PS4.The images are much sharper with other minor improvements to cityscape, sound and other tweaks. The game was just like a remember and it was a joy to play again. To note - As in the original there is not really a free roam, you follow the quests in a linear fashion. There is a freeroam mode, but only a few car collection missions, nothing more.I also couldn't spot any 'additional gameplay content'
