Does the frame scratch the paint or is there a foam protector (or something similar) to prevent scratching?

There is no protection from scratching the paint on your vehicle. My car has thick threaded nylon bushings to mount the top of the license plate to, and rubber bumpers at the bottom to keep the plates and frames away from the painted surface. In the past I have purchased those adhesive rubber pads that you put on the bottom of lamps or whatever to keep from scratching your furniture or counter tops. stick them to the back of the plates or on your car. Will water eventually dull this frame? Chrome?

I imagine road debris, salt and age might dull the finish.You can keep it washed and waxed- as you do with your vehicle, that should protect it.

will it fit a 2018 Subaru forester?

It's a standard license plate cover. License plates are the same size, regardless of car make or year, so yes it will fit.

What kind of screwdriver do you need to take plate of

The plates come with nice small screwdriver that will work for these plates...now your old screws may need another screw driver and from my experience most plate screws are designed to accept either head screwdriver.

Great value
