We had a fly problem. Had.
We live in a very hot climate and last week I probably killed 5-10 flies per day using old fashioned tools (magazines, etc.). Could not figure out where they were all coming from. Within 48 hours of getting this zapper our fly numbers have dropped to nearly zero. My wife thinks I am having too much fun with this thing. Maybe she's right. The crackle-pop is quite satisfying. One thing I would caution is that if you have a very sensitive smoke detector you might trigger it accidentally. Some flies stick to the grid after getting zapped and kind of start smoldering for 30-60 seconds and it produces some smoke. So I don't leave the thing on when I leave the house, just in case. But this zapper overall is highly effective and looks good to boot. One of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

This is a BEAUTIFUL Night Light
This is the most beautiful night light one can own. The soft blue hue illuminates the entire area enough for my cats to see what they are doing, and for my starlight-enabled cameras to use color night vision. This is light and easy to hang anywhere. The 1-foot cord is great because it makes it way more convenient to go and get an extension cord and run it up a wall and over a ceiling to plug it in. I highly recommend this light for all the above reasons. The only drawback to this light is that it does not eliminate any type of insect whatsoever. I found little friends camped out above the light bathing in the rays. If you want pest control, this is not the product you want. I had faith that Black and Decker would work despite all of the negative reviews. I do not know how this is still available for sale as a bug light. Maybe it. makes them easier to spot the bugs at night vs complete darkness.Do not take my word or others' word for it. Give it a shot. Then come back and leave your review :)

Work as expected, but...short cord
Work as expected but power cord should be longer. We are using a power cord cover that weatherproofs the plug end and barely makes room to add wire supports(cable ties). Our extension cord is rated for outdoor use but we did not want to have the receptacle end exposed.Unit is easy to empty with the twist off base. So far we are catching mostly moths. Hard to tell if flies or other insects are in the mix. Last time it was emptied something flew out of the base which means the grid did not kill it, but simply trapped. We would have given 5 stars if the cord was a foot or 2 longer

Jury Is Still Out On This Zapper!
We live in Texas and it's HOT here! Here come the house flies! So we have had a serious house fly infestation this year. Fly swatters don't work; those wily flies evade, evade, evade. I bought Raid Flying Insect spray.... that works for about 4-6 hours and then they are back in full force. Raid, of course, is a chemical and toxic to humans and pets so I do not like using a chemical. I stopped using Raid because of the toxicity and the fact it was only lasting a few hours. In desperation, I purchased this Black&Decker indoor bug zapper. It is larger than I thought and the lights (2 UV florescent tubes) are much brighter than I thought they would be. It was supposed to come with a cleaning brush for the grid (execution chamber) but it didn't include it. Bummer. It's also not a B&D product although branded as such under license. The zapper is made in China by a company called "Umba Group." However, there is a U.S. 800 number for B&D listed in the instruction manual. The zapper is made, almost entirely out of high quality plastic. So how does it work? Well, I set it up about 6 feet off the floor; I needed to buy an extension cord as the supplied cord was not long enough. Plugged it in and the lights shone brightly even in full daylight. At night it is quite bright but not distractingly so. Before we started using this, I was constantly being bothered by flies, swatting at them, waving them away, etc. Just six hours after we plugged it in for the first time, blessed relief! The flies were no longer using me and my wife as airport runways! Now, the occasional fly zeroes in, but they seem anemic and I can easily kill them with my hand. This all sounds GREAT, right? Maybe. Because to date, after 3 days of operation, I only found 4 dead flies in the tray. I gaurentee that there were dozens and dozens of flies flying around before. Where did they go? I can only hypothesize that the zapper is doing SOMETHING?! Maybe it is stunning them and they go off and die somewhere? Regardless, I'm no longer being bombarded by flies and the relief is palpable! I will update this as needed as this is only day 3.
