I work as a software engineer and wanted to put more RAM in my workstation at work, but the motherboard is a cheaper one that only has two DIMMs, each of which already had a 2GB stick in it. This enabled me to get a substantial amount of RAM by current standards within a budget the company was happy to cover.My machine had no problem detecting the new RAM, and within minutes I was back up and running with noticeably less slowdown during my heavy use of IDEs (programming environments) and Photoshop, both of which are substantial memory hogs.It's worth noting that you should check the highest speed of memory your rig supports. Many newer CPUs support 1600 MHz RAM, which allows for faster communication with the computer, but many are still limited to 1333 MHz. Some fairly recent computers are even limited lower, at 1066 MHz.In laymans terms, putting this in some machines might not get you that machine's full potential memory-wise, and putting it in some might limit the performance of the memory itself. Since faster memory can usually be clocked down, there's nothing wrong with getting memory that's faster than you can support if you plan on upgrading your CPU later, but, generally, the lower the speed, the cheaper the memory, all else being equal.

I got this for a new budget gaming PC that I built, and I only got one stick (running in Single Channel Mode). I cannot speak highly enough of this. I don't have any issues with it, it will get to 1600 MHz as long your BIOS says so, and it's worth every penny. I am going to get another one of these sometime soon, but only when I feel like I really need it. I am using it on Windows 8 Pro, and if you edit the Windows performance settings, and make sure you choose to allocate for best performance, it will use very little RAM. I have some background apps running (Google Drive uploads, Steam, Origin, UPlay, AMD Catalyst, and a couple others) and it doesn't use above 1.3 GB of this RAM. I love Corsair (especially their power supplies) and this RAM is an excellent example of how great their products are.Don't feel tricked because it says "Value Select" on the label, this doesn't feel like they cut any corners to get this RAM produced.As always, I'll update this if I have any issues or further thoughts.

When I buy memory I try and get corsair when I can, seeing as they are a known/trusted brand. I have taken chances on unknown companies before with mixed results, and now I stick with the brand that has never given me problems.At the time that I bought this the price was absolutely right for the amount of memory you got, although now it is a tad higher for whatever reason, but its still a good deal. If you are looking to up the memory in your computer this is a good way to do it, don't fall for the gimmicky heat spreaders and fancy colors some companies use on their ram, its useless. All you need is a quality brand that makes a quality product, and this memory succeeds on both counts!

Some people are saying the 1333 MHz isn't that great in lieu of 1600 MHz, but the facts are 1)Average users will not notice a difference between the two speeds 2)Most people don't even have a high-end enough CPU or motherboard for there to even BE a difference. If you are just looking for a RAM upgrade for your desktop then this is the perfect product, if you are building a new high-end gaming rig today then you probably want something faster. If you are comparing this to another stick of RAM that is more expensive and has a heat sync or fancy looking metal casing on the outside, get the value select instead. Heat syncs on RAM are a marketing gimmick and are completely unnecessary unless you are going into your bios and going crazy overclocking your memory. Corsair is a great brand and I will never buy another G.SKILL stick again. This brought my memory speed rating up to a 7.4 on windows experience index and as of the time of me writing this is the best deal you can get for 8GB of memory.

I returned the memory. Prior to purchase, I researched my mother board on the manufacturer's website. It stated the board can handle a maximum of 16GB of memory. I open the box and looked at the slots where the memory goes in. There are 4 slots, 2 white and 2 blue. The whites were taken. I photographed the memory that was in the machine and ordered the exact memory that is in the machine (which is this memory I'm reviewing). I installed the memory. The computer recognized it, showed the max available memory but according to the machine only half was 'useable.' The half usable is my original memory. The machine froze. I removed the new memory, restarted the machine. I began to have problems with all my programs. Fortunately I was smart enough to backup my files before I installed the new memory. I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled all my software, which was very time consuming. My computer is performing like it was before the new memory install. Maybe I just got defected memory. I recall when Fry's built my computer a few years ago they had problems with the install of this memory. One of the two sticks were bad. I don't know if this memory has an on going manufacturing problem. What I do know is it didn't work. I'm still waiting on my refund so hopefully Amazon will do right by me. I'm optimistic they will.
