Genre specific top of the line sheet music book.
Hal Leonard sheet music books are top of the line. I have bought many since the year 2000. I was a part time musician, not really my profession, but I have made good money playing with bands and for personal enjoyment. One reason I buy Hal Leonard's books is because they are good. Regardless of the genre, their books are published for special music genres, my happens to be Jazz. I play for whatever the contract requires, regardless of genre/ as content was concern. Besides the pricing of of Hal Leonard's books at Amazon are better than buying direct

Exceeded my expectations
I bought this book because I wanted to expand my range of music for piano and also make a few things on FL Studio on my down time. I couldn't find any actual pages from the book online, but I still took and gander at this book. I opened the book, started reading a few pages and realized I should have bought this book earlier!!! it has so much music theory knowledge in it, that it would have been helpful during my studies in Music Theory because I didn't learn a thing in that class. Anyways, if you are looking for a book that has lots of theory in it or just want to play early jazz (more of ragtime) then you should definitely buy this book.

be-bop piano
If you are trying to learn be-bop style of piano this is helpful. I also have Jazz theory and Practice by Lawn and Hellmer. That is probably a better book for all around jazz theory. Also important for the study of jazz are the (2) books by Mark Levine. They are truly the best two of the four books mentioned here.

Unnecessarily complicated
while I like how the CD sounds, it's too unnecessarily complicated. I showed it to my teacher, and she said that no pianist thinks the way the music is arranged in this book. The left hand is over complicated. The harmony parts could be simplified, otherwise you just end up having to make your own arrangement. If you tried to play the left hand exactly as written, you'll spend 10 years working on one tune.

Extremely helpful for understanding and learning the language of Bebop
Extremely helpful for understanding and learning the musical language of Bebop Jazz Piano. Clear Structure of the book, could not be better. Thanks from Switzerland to Mr. John Valerio who impressed me already in other books with his logical way of describing the real important points.

OMG! Just what I needed.
The riffs gave me an improvisational basis to build upon that I needed. This is coming from a student of bebop that thought he couldn't learn anything new.
