If you string your own racquets, you need one of these!
If you are a serious racquet player (especially tennis), then you know that strings are critical to playing your best. Different strings behave differently and keep their tension for various lengths of time.So having a stringing machine and the ability to restring a racquet whenever you like is like mana from heaven; just what you need to ensure that your strings are optimal ready for your next competition.Like everything, racquet restringing improves the more you work at it. If you are careful you an get reasonable consistency of string tension without using a starting clamp. If you are a regular club player, you may not think that this investment is worthwhile, and so you can get by without a starting clamp. but if you are serious about precision and to get optimum tension, you need a starting clamp. Actually, I have two. If you watch some videos on how professional stringers work, they use one clamp to hold one end whilst doing the crosses and then another at the other end of the racquet. This is because they start several rows down the racquet to even tension across the frame. This one by Pros Pro is built much like many others, with a strong clamp to secure the string, metal for much of the tool, with a spring mechanism activated by squeezing the handles together to loosen off the string when required.Using a starting clamp means that you hold the tension of the string when it passes through one of the grommet holes on the racquet. To avoid possibly maerking your racquet, it is worthwhile having s piece of leather or strong plastic to position between the clamp and the racquet. Unfortunately, this is not provided - hence the docked star.Otherwise, a well priced tool to help you get some real precision when stringing your racquets.
