One of the few readily available and accurate resources for English speakers to learn Nepali
I picked this up so I could speak more to my wife's family. The book itself provides fantastic explanations of the grammar and walks you through stories to learn. While the book tells you to use flashcards to learn Devanagari, I recommend just using Duolingo Hindi and 100% the alphabet, then return to this book. The audio is available for free download online from the complete website. I only wish the audio included the vocabulary lists as well, but it's great for those without a Nepali speaker on hand.

Very helpful
Very well written, follows a way train of thought for learning. Take your time on the lessons that are harder for you and do every exercise.

Not exactly a 'beginners' book, but a great tool to have.
My wife and I are learning Nepali and as previous language learners we did find this book to be helpful, especially the included compact discs which really help you to get a feel for the pace and accent of native speakers. I wouldn't say this is quite the "Nepali for Dummies", it's a tad more advanced than it seems. It will, however, get you into a very difficult language in a relatively short time. Being a learning process, I don't think you can really compare how quickly one would learn verses another method, but for presenting Nepali in a way that is logical and the discs really help you learn faster.

Needs to be used with a Nepali tutor
This was the best resource I could find of learning Nepali. The clean layout and well-organized chapters that build on previous vocabulary are helpful. Having sound recordings on disc is essential to learning a language, so I was glad to have the audio on CD. Technically, there is enough information in the book to go from zero to level 4 fluency. However, I hope the authors will make a second version. The first few chapters do well in teaching you how to read and write the Script. There is an English transliteration for each Nepali word, so you can double-check your pronunciation. However, the English transliteration stops in chapter 5 out of 24 and you're left guessing at the pronunciation. Nepali consonants have an inherent vowel sound, but you don't know if that is voiced or not (in some words it is, in some words it isn't). Also, the letters do some very quirky changes, leaving you with dozens of characters you haven't learned. The audio recordings started off good, but also got way too fast and too slurred. I got very discouraged after chapter 5, even though I'm pretty adept at learning languages. If I find a Nepali tutor, this book looks like a good study guide, but if you're on your own I imagine it will be very difficult.

Very helpful for our missionary
Our son is serving a Mission for our church & is working with a lot of Nepalese people. He's greatly appreciated the help this book has given, so he can communicate his feelings effectively.

Great Material
It was also organized in a great way... When combined with speaking to actual Nepalis and a few beginner pdfs I have been on a fast track :-)

No MP3 with the book!
The discription says, "This pack includes a book and one MP3 CD of audio material" but it was not included. The book is useless without being able to listen to the sounds and dialogues.
