Wedding Cake Sliced to Perfection
I purchased this knife for one reason and that was to slice my daughters wedding cake. It has the perfect amount of flex and it is extremely sharp. I have also used it for bread and it does a great job on bread also. Excellent tool.

Great knife for cakes
I bought it mainly to cut the hump off my biggest cake pan cakes all in one piece. It worked perfectly last week when making my 50th class reunion cake. It's really long though. Won't fit in any of my kitchen drawers, but barely does fit in one drawer of my island I bought a few years ago. Make sure you measure so you can store it.

It's huge and that's a good thing!
I already have a number of smaller bread knives but I got a special bread slicing stand that needed something longer. This was the only 14 inch knife I could find, and even though it's primarily for slicing cakes into layers, it works amazingly well on my sourdough bread. I feel I have a lot more control and am able to get much more even slices, even when doing it freehand, than I ever had with my smaller bread knives. I think the control comes from how wide the blade is. I don't know how long it will stay sharp but for now I can't think of a better knife for slicing bread.

Now that's a knife!
I bought this to cut homemade bread using the Bread Pal slicer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005YCKRMU/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_21.Even after reading the reviews I hadn't properly appreciated the sheer size of this knife until I opened the package. The "sward" jokes in other reviews make sense now! My husband's exact words on seeing the knife for the first time were, "Holy crap! That's a big knife!"However, despite its size, it is lightweight, well-balanced, and very sharp. Using this knife and the Bread Pal, we can now slice our bread so neatly that it looks machine-sliced. No more crooked slices means we can use all of the loaf without waste. Based on the knife's performance cutting bread, I'm sure this knife will also be a great tool for leveling or layering a cake, but I haven't tried that yet.The knife comes with a clear plastic sleeve for storage. However, this sleeve doesn't secure around the knife. (There is a strap with a snap closure, but the strap is too small to actually use - a design failure.) The knife just sits in the sleeve. This still provides some protection to you and your other items if you store the knife in a drawer. Which is where you probably will have to store it, since I have never seen a knife block big enough to accommodate this knife!Although I have not owned it long enough to assess its long-term durability, we have used and washed this knife several times a week and it still appears brand-new.I am very pleased so far and highly recommend this sward.

My new favorite bread slicing knife.
I make my own sourdough bread, not that I am patting myself on the back, but as with ANY homemade bread, getting even slices, or slices at all, can be challenging. I have recently bought one of those bamboo bread slicers and it is too small for the size of bread loaf I make, so I struggled with having to cut the loaves in half to fit into the slicer in order to get somewhat consistent slices. I purchased this knife with a recommendation from a professional cake decorator who swears by this brand. They were not lying! The knife works like a charm and I do not need a slicing guide because it cuts through so smoothly and evenly. Now I wished I did not purchase the bread slicer!

A BIG FAT KNIFE YOU WILL LIKE!
Four stars because it came in bent and could be thinner and a tad more versatile if made with higher quality steel. Sadly, I had to send mine back as it had a slight bend. As I also ordered another knife to go with it, I went with a return. HOWEVER >>>>> This is one nice knife. It is a bit thick at the top but for cutting sourdough bread or leveling cakes, this thing would be the bomb! My original purpose was bagels but did I mention this is one BIG HONKING knife? No doubt, in the future I'll repurchase if for no other reason that to impress house guests when I open the knife drawer.

My wife uses this for everything
I use this 10" knife for cutting bread, but my wife uses it for meat, fruit, vegetables, and, by the way, bread.I have also used it for knuckles, but I don't recommend the practice. My wife wishes there were a shorter one available.
