What if you have the PC version already?
Ok, first up if you already have the PC version should you get this game? Absolutely! At first I found the plant set-up very different but it's actually fairly intuitive and although point and click is slightly better for plant placement it really is not an issue once you knock out a couple of rounds and acclimate yourself to the new method. Picking up coins and suns? Wow, so much easier...the cursor acts as a magnet and will pick up suns and coins even if you are not directly over them and you don't even need to click the button. All of the mini-games are here as well as survival mode, zen garden, etc. It also has a feature to buy houses but I haven't done anything with that yet. So, in my opinion it's a slight upgrade over the PC version and I sort of enjoy unlocking different achievements...but wait there's more...If you don't have Peggle and have never played it you are going to be extremely happen that you purchased this game. Peggle is very addictive and even the online multiplayer mode is pretty fun. Peggle is almost more fun than P vs. Z.And then it comes with Zuma! OK, I don't really like this game but that is probably because I suck at it. I haven't gotten into a great rhythm with it but I am sure I will invest some time into it later and check it out in more detail. It seems like a good challenge. You should get this game.

Not so great a gift. It's old.
This is the first released Plants vs. Zombies game. It is now the oldest. Plants vs. Zombies (PVZ) Garden Wareare was the second PVZ game released (about 2014) and then PVZ Battle for Neighborville, which was just released in October 2019. This game PVZ game started the series and is great fun but really for nostalgia only. The game format, graphics, design, everything is old. Don't get me wrong, it is a lot of fun but don't get confused by the name, "Plants vs. Zombies". Remember, as explained above, there are three (3) such games and this is the oldest. If you want to buy a new Plants vs. Zombies (PVZ) game as a gift get the newest game, "Plants vs. Zombies, Battle for Neighborville." That is the newest and the greatest and it has incredible clarity, details on the characters, and several new characters and background scenery. But again, regards this original game, it is still a good gift for kids 7 years old and up to 21 years of age. Even older kids/adults will enjoy this game.

Fun to play
This game is so fun to play for kids and adults. Zombies walk around and you have to stop them from getting your garden plants. It is not too easy but also not a hard game to play. I would recommend this game if you have never played it.

A Zombie Game for the Whole Family (yes, really)
We arrived late to this tower defense game (released on retail disc in September 2010) but happily discovered that Plants vs. Zombies hasn't lost any of its charm. What makes this compilation from Popcap Games so special is that for less than $20, you get three games - Plants vs. Zombies, Zuma and Peggle. There are five original game modes: Adventure, Puzzle, Mini-Games, Survival and Zen Garden. Co-op and Versus multiplayer modes provide a lot of added fun to the core adventure. The basic gameplay has you guard your back yard with plants. Each level adds new types of plants and zombies each with their own offensive and defensive skills.Don't let the idea of zombies turn you away from a great game. The designers keep the game's look and feel tightly dialed toward silly, not scary.I encourage you to read the rating details available at [...] if you have young children. Plants vs. Zombies is rated `E10' (Everyone 10+) for animated blood and cartoon violence. This is the exact rating summary from ESRB:"This is an action/strategy game in which players create a garden of destructive plants to ward off waves of incoming zombies. Whimsical plant varieties include potato mines, jalapeno bombs, pea shooters, and 'cabbage-pults.' As zombies enter the garden, they are pelted with watermelons, corn, butter, squash, and other projectiles that cause them to collapse or occasionally lose a limb. One variety of zombie wears a bucket with a small streak of blood on it."Our sons are ages 8 and 7 and the silly cartoon zombies don't scare them. However, when they lose a game, the music turns ominous and green slimed message appears on the screen, "THE ZOMBIES ATE YOUR BRAINS!"That moment elicits shrieks as they hide their eyes (there are no graphic images, just the message and music).Rating: Five stars.BTW: We purchased our Xbox 360 as a Christmas present for the whole family, specifically to play Kinect games. We enjoy the system but the game library leans heavily toward T-rated and M-rated entertainment. Family-friendly games that offer quality `couch co-op' are difficult to find. This compilation is charming, funny and an outstanding value.
