Rule Shower Drain Box w/800 GPH Pump - 12V

Overall I like this shower sump kit.I purchased the Rule 98B to use as a shower sump for an RV renovation. From my research it appears to have better design considerations for periodic and repair maintenance which is critical since the sump will be located in an inconvenient to access location. The 98B is significantly more expansive than other choices so only time will tell if this was a good tradeoff.I wanted to pass along some things I didn't know/consider before purchasing.First, the kit includes three 3/4" hose barbed adapters, one 1" hose barbed adapter, one 1 1/8" hose barbed adapter, and a mounting plate to ease installation. If you want to use more than one of the larger sizes you'll need to buy them. Fortunately they are available on Amazon, but an added and not insignificant cost.Second, the 1/2" (ID) vent/overflow connection. Hopefully you'll never need the overflow protection, but I like to plan for the worst and hope for the best so I wanted to direct any overflow draining through the bottom of the RV. The sump box connection is like a pipe spigot connection, ie short and not threaded or barbed. It's also not a standard size, at least the standards that are readily available to me. I contacted Xylem and they don't offer an adapter. So what to do? I ended up using a Spears model 460-005 1/2" spigot to barb adapter. I reamed out the spigot end using a 21/32" drill bit (using a typical hand held drill). This provided for a snug press fit. Both the sump box and the Spears adapter are made from PVC so they can be permanently glued if required.Third, you'll need to make sure the pump exit plumbing has no sags/droops/valleys (ie it needs to run all uphill). The pump is not self priming so if there are sags you could end up with "airlock" and the pump won't work. There's a nice YouTube video that explains (search "Explaining Airlock in a Bilge Hose").

This box is a perfect replacement for the old shower sump box in or boat which stopped working. It fit the foot print perfectly. We had to cut off the adapter threads on the largest inlet and then my hose fits well. A plug is included to block off the unused inlet. Make sure your your outlet hose fits as the box with larger pump would not fit my 3/4 in outlet hose. Works well and pump easily handles flow from our shower.

I have a boat originally equipped with 32Vdc shower sump pumps which are no longer available. I decided to purchase this 12V Rule and use a 36Vdc to 12Vdc converter which was available on Amazon for $20. Rule has a video on YouTube for the 98B shower sump pump which highlights the improvements in the new "B" version. It's never easy doing anything in a bilge but this new design does it easier to install and service.

Easy to clean, check proper operation, and best of all, quiet.

The only negative I have for this product are the hose attachments. The largest is still to small for the drain hose from the shower. Had to do some engineering with a radiator hose that I have to reorder lol!

My boat came with an original model. Glad that this replacement exists. It is a little extra money over just replacing the pump or switch, if you can find one. What you get is an easier-to-clean screen. The box lid is also easier to get off and on. Nothing was done on the cheap.
