One of these turns heads at the stop light!!
I bought this exact Hifonics HFX12D4 12" sub from an audio store here in Las Vegas. This guy has a little shop setup in a store called "Savers". He had all kinds of car stuff, such as subwoofers, amps, various gauges of wiring, etc. My wife and I were there about a month ago shopping for her first sub. We tested 4 different brands(Sony XPlod, Pioneer, Kenwood and a Kicker) all of which were 12" speakers. They all sounded great. I mean they sounded really good. Then one box design caught my eye, and the price was right so I told the guy to hook it up. It had this 12" Hifonics sub inside. He hooked it up and played a song and immediately I knew this sub was the one. The bass was so natural, I mean it hit the lows so perfectly. The deep bass notes breathed like a beast hot and heavy like some sort of mythical dragon. The punchy bass notes were always on time, CLEAN and CLEAR! It's hit every high-low bass note really well. I don't know why some other reviewers say that it hits those notes bad. Maybe it's a matter of musical taste which makes the sub perform differently. I listen to all sorts of music, even Japanese music and I hear all bass notes just fine. I sometimes have to reduce the bass on my head unit because it literally doesn't miss a note but back to the store...... It's like, the louder he turned it up, the better the speaker sounded, it was just sickeningly orgasmic so I bought it right then and there for $100(ported box included). She has it in her Ford Explorer and she likes listening to loud music of all genres and whenever she's pulling up in the driveway, you know it's her because the windows shake.SooooOOOOOo. I went back to this same place 2 weeks ago after blowing this cheap 400W old Pioneer sub(it was smoking and everything. I had to pull over because I thought something was on fire). It just so happened he got another Hifonics sub(HFX12D4), that was a 12" also. I bought that one for $100(ported box included). Now, my wife and I both have Ford Explorers, with Crunch 800W amps, and 4 Polk DB571 Door Speakers with Sony 660UP dash receivers so everything's pretty much identical in our vehicles. I recommend this stereo receiver as well because you can personally tune just about every setting(EQ, HPF,LPF,Subwoofer Level,ALO, DM+, Loudness, and a bunch of other sound options to get your music sounding just right). Our subwoofer box designs are a little different, both ported, but we still get a bunch of head turns when we're out driving. I was just out tonight cruising down The Strip with my radio turned up halfway(25); and people on both sides of the Strip stopped doing what they were doing turned towards the street to see where the music was coming from. I've had people at stop lights literally roll their windows up next to me because the music was so loud. I get at least one compliment a day from people watching me approach them as I'm driving down the street. Some people will waive their hands at me, some will start dancing along with the music, some will just stare. Now I'm not saying this is the best sub in the world; there could be better sounding ones out there but from my own personal experience with this sub, having just ONE, ONLY ONE in my car with the equipment that I have(which isn't even that powerful), this is probably better than anything you'll find out there, and for the price...man. Get these subs while you can! You will NOT be disappointed in the amount of power you can drive into these things and they'll still sound flawless. They're lightweight and hit harder than you'll ever know. Trunks will rattle, mirrors will vibrate, you will wonder why you haven't gotten one of these sooner.I am ordering another one as we speak. One is way more than I could ever have anticipated, way more than enough. I just want to see how two would sound.

It's not perfect, but it can be...
I purchased this thing around eight years ago to go in a budget set up with an AMP I picked up at a good will. This thing sounds fantastic with a hurricane style ported box. The only issue I ever had with it was that the plastic bit they glue onto it came loose and started to rattle. I tore that junk off and it works great, when I bought it, it was 33 bucks, but even at 50 it's a steal when compared to other subs.I've gone through a number of cheap subs, in kits from amazon, one from walmart, and hand me downs. On a budget I it's hard to get better than this. If you really want a pounding and you listen to a lot of high bass music, put it in a 2 cubic food volume box, this thing hits like a ton of bricks in a big box but I had to downsize the box to fit it in something else when it left my pickup. It's currently sitting in a 1.5 cubic foot box that it does better over all (the 2 footer isn't as strong once you leave super low frequencies) I'm genuinely sad I can't get to this thing or it's accompanying amp since there sitting in military storage for now.

No! It's not worth a try.
I guess you can't expect much for the price butit didn't even make a break in period. Was running a decent Focal amp at about 250/280 rms watts and the sub fried on a 20 min ride home in a sealed enclosure before I even really pushed it trying to break it in. The pictures make it look worth trying but when you pick it up it's so light I've had 6.5 component door speaker with heavier magnets.

Has to be the best budget subwoofer on the market
I purchased this subwoofer along with an Atrend 12' ported box a little over a week ago, and wow I must say what a nice little combo. This subwoofer is perfect for people on a budget, or for a starter subwoofer. You could even use it if something were to happen to your current subwoofer until you get a higher end replacement like me. I didnt really have high expectations, but I am plesantly surprised to say that this little guy hits pretty hard. As long as you tune your amplifier and your equalizer settings on your stereo correctly it will sound really solid. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out the right amount of bass, treble, etc to apply to the settings. I keep my amp turned up only halfway on the bass settings, and do the rest on the stereo. I have this paired to a Hifonics 1200 watt super class D mono amp and it sounds great. This hits smoother but not quite as hard than my previous Audiobahn which was 900 watt rms, 1800 watt max. Once again if your looking for a quality budget sub, and you tune it right you will be happy. If i don t get the Alpine Type R next, I will be getting the next tier up of the Hifonics its only 65 bucks and pumps out a few hundred more watts.

Got rid of popping sound through adjustments and sealed box
At first I hooked them up as replacements for some 12 inch Phoenix Gold that were over 10 years old and finally giving out. So through comparison had high expectations and I was thinking that they would be at least decent. Unfortunately upon installation even with break in period , I was disappointed and couldn't even believe the sound I was getting out of them. I've had a set of hifonics before and was pleased with them but these ones really just disgusted me. On verge of returning, then I checked amp settings and disabled the sub sonic frequency and changed from 30 hz to between 120hz -150hz and got rid of the popping sound then I decided to change from a ported box to a sealed enclosure and damn my bass came back , like it was a different set of subs were installed. Now that's the way I was used to hearing my stereo. . Glad I didn't send back. Recommend them to anyone who can utilize a sealed enclosure. . With ported box sounds like crap , sealed box sounds great 👍
