Well written about many English mis-translated versions of Quran and how Thomas Jefferson misguided. Very interesting to know that this great person itself not aware of his own slaves in his backyard.

Top of the Line Scholarship!
Very thorough examination of how people of Islamaic faith were in the minds of Enlightenment figures, as well as founders of the American nation up to the 1840s. Lot's of scriptures of the Qur'an are cited, but lots of Thomas Jefferson quotes are cited as well. My favorite Jefferson quote is on page 229, where Thomas Jefferson said the "while I claim a right to believe in one God, if so my reason tells me, I yield as freely to others that believe in three. Both religions, I find, make honest men, and that is the only point society has any right to look to."This book is an important contribution to our country's intellectual history, and I highly recommend it to every American who professes his/her love for our country.

Absolutely crucial book
This book is a wonderful corrective to the narrative of Islam as new to or different from other religions in the United States. Dr. Spellberg is extremely well-versed in the history of religion in America, as well as U.S. history and Islamic studies. The book is useful for beginners to the topic, as well as adding nuance and new information to scholars already engaged with the field. I also use it in my higher-level high school classes.

An excellent book (if badly named)
This book is an excellent account of how religious tolerance came to the early USA. It is only, however, rather tangentially related to the Qur'an, Mr. Jefferson's or any other. Some books don't work well in the Kindle format, but I found no difficulties with this book.
