So far, so good
I've had this laptop for a few months now and it performs as expected. I had a Latitude in the past that I adored, so I've stuck with the brand and this one doesn't disappoint. I used it for a video call last night and unplugged it since it was on a full charge. Using the video and audio and interacting with it the entire call, the battery was drained in about an hour and it had to be plugged into the wall again. Not terribly upsetting for a laptop that's mostly used at home near an outlet but may be a consideration if you're intending to do a lot of travel. I love a good processor and it seems to work well, no lag times. Wifi connection works fine. The refurbished one I got has a full-size black sticker on the lid to cover what I'm guessing are scratches from previous use, but it took a lot of staring and comparing it to the old one to even discover that since it's meant to blend in with the look of the factory case. It's not new, there are dings here and there but everything is functional without difficulty and I have been very pleased so far.

Battery life is HORRIBLE!
After less than a month of purchasing, the battery can only last ONE HOUR on its own. We have tried everything, including updating the drivers, turning the brightness down, etc, but the battery life is pathetic. I feel like the computer got even slower after I updated the drivers, taking a full minute to open even Chrome. It can run programs fine but you cannot unplug the laptop for more than 5 minutes before it gives you a "low battery" warning. Do not buy this.

Dell 5490 i7/16b/500gb Touchscreen
Excellent product though the fingerprint reader is defective and the SSD wasn't 512gb as advertised but 500gb.Other than that - 5 stars *****

Not a reliable gaming pc.
This product is working exactly as I had hoped it would. I use it as an android emulator and to stream shows and whatnot.I've tested it to see what it can handle graphically, and if you're expecting a gaming rig capable of playing gta on lowest settings without lag, this ain't for you.Now if you're playing less graphic intensive games like the long dark, or old ps2 remasters, then it works beautifully. The pc also does well with multi-tasking. I can run 3 bluestack sessions and stream Netflix in HD with no issue. I've had no batter issues either, and, the charger has a sweet little light on it, pretty nifty, also has Backlit keyboard.Packaging was also well done, laptop was nice and secure in the box the whole shipping process.5/5, would recommend to a friend.

Drive seems to be failing in less than a year
Edit: changed from 3 to 5 starts after contacting seller. Item was out of manufacturer's warranty but still in warranty with seller. They were local and I was able to get it in and out of repairs in less than a day. A simple fix and I'm out the door. Customer support was excellent.I have had this for less than a year. I hardly use it, it's used primarily for clerical-related or text-based (D&D) things because it's more portable than my gaming laptop.I've been getting "checking media presence" and "start PXE over ivp4" messages and having it boot 2 minutes later. This shouldn't be an issue for barely having it for less than a year and not using it often (until recently for school).I checked the service tag on Dell's website, support ended well before I bought it.Aside from that, the screen needs to be pushed back a little to be fully seen, even at mid to max brightness.

Not the Resolution Promised
The detailed product description (Refurbished Dell 5490) says this will have a FHD (1920x1080) resolution, but the refurbished machine I got had only 1366 x 768 resolution. It took me 1-2 days to notice this, but I have other identical machines and I did notice some screens definitely have less detail and content on one screen. I do not do gaming or much graphics, just MS Office and mail, so it was not instantly noticeable.Yes, I tried to fix the resolution in Settings, but 1366 x 768 was the max capable. And yes I tried to load new drivers, but I had the latest driver - Intel UHD Graphics 620. My other Dell 5490 has exactly the same driver, but has the full 1920 x 1080 FHD resolution. I assume part of the renew = rebuild on my machine was a new display, and the refurb team (ECO-TECH LLC who seel through Amazon renewed) just installed a lower resolution replacement screen, apparently. In fairness, I looked back at the full product description and all details, and in one spot it says 14 inch HD (no resolution listed, and HD not FHD) and another spot in my description it says FHD (1920x1080). I guess they were careless and did not fix that OEM (new) description. So be careful - if resolution matters to you, look at all descriptions and go with the worst.I debated returing this and trying to buy another, but I do not want to risk too many returns with Amazon, since over 10% can apparently, maybe get you banned, and in all other aspects (except screen resolution) it looks and acts like a new machine. I paid $376, and the new price is quoted as $874 more (i.e. $1250 total). Other sellers of similar Dell refurb 5490's had this at over $100 more at the same time I bought this. This is a Core i7, 8650 CPU, with 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM, and Windows 10 Professional, so it is a fantastic machine for a really low price. Windows 11 compatible - (which I will not upgrade to until the last minute, of course). For my purposes, I can live with the lower resolution. PLUS, the one I got has a backlit keyboard - which is an option (not all Dell 5490's have this) that cannot be specified, nor listed on any refurb machines (only option when buying new) and since I work a lot late at night, the backlit keyboard is very valuable to me - I totally love it. Returing and rebuying probably means less that 50% chance I'd get another 5490 with a backlit keyboard. So bottom line - a fantastic machine at a fantastic price - but if the graphics resolution is super important to you, always check immediately upon receipt and be ready to return it.
