I have raised and kept birds most of my life (30+ years) and always wanted a canary, but never actually took the step to add them until this year. Being an avid reader, I was looking for something to outline good canary care and how it differentiates from the birds I have (finches, doves, cockatiels, lovebirds). This was not really what I was looking for, but I was intrigued. I am SO GLAD I got this book. The book is well made with a sturdy paperback cover and thick pages. The type is clear and sized easy to read. The binding is tight, and although I have read this as well as two teen daughters, it is still perfectly tight.Let's be clear . . . this is not a coffee table book. This is not a kids book. This is not a simple money grab book. This is a book that makes the reader feel like they have sat down with the author and a good cup of coffee. The writing is clear, interesting, conversational. I found it enjoyable and do not hesitate to recommend it.

A must read for Canary lovers
I’ve read numerous books on all different kinds of animals, several of them on birds. This is hands down the most informative, well written book on Canaries. The format is easy to read and the information is tried and true. This is someone who is passionate about Canaries as well as other birds. The advice is sound and has really worked for me and my canary. The information given applies to more birds than just canaries. The author has a sense of humor and great insights. Helpful for those trying to breed and to the single canary owner.

One of the best canary books available - if you can actually read, not just look at pictures.
I have had canaries for over 35 years, have 7 right now and have raised a dozen or so from eggs. I think that the negative reviews are misguided. This is a reference book. Robirda's books do not have many illustrations or photos and they are not in color. However, they have a LOT of information that very few, if any, other sources have. In my opinion, it is absolutely one of the best books out there on keeping canaries - if you can read and not just look at pictures. I have both of her books plus about a dozen other highly rated canary books - including most mentioned as better (I disagree) in other reviews, but her's are my "go to" references.

Canary handbook
It seems to have the answer to questions that come up and I don’t have to ask a vet. I’m very happy with this book. 😊

Prefer Another Book
Nice book, well written. However, not a single picture to accompany explanations. As someone new to breeding canaries, I find Canary Tales a much more useful and practical book. Wish I hadn't wasted my money when I already owned Canary Tales. I was simply trying to learn more but there really wasn't anything new for me in here except a lot of scientific explanations.

Enjoyed learning more about canaries
Such a great source of info. The author used to have her website where you could find awesome info about canaries, but it is gone now, so this book is very helpful.
