Shapton stones are truly the best!!
The media could not be loaded. I’ve tried many other wet stones and the grit doesn’t match number printed on the side,.. I Had to go by feel,.. hours and hours trying for a polished , flat chisel back… As soon as I started working with these stones I got the Rob Cosman results first try,… if you want perfect polished edges ,.. these stones are the only way to go and I suggest everyone watch Rob Cosman on you tube,.. 32 seconds to sharp and sharpening in the real world… he says you can get by with the trend diamond 1000 and the Shapton 8000,.. which is true ,.. but you’ll spend hell of a time getting the 1000 scratches out with just 8000 shapton.. the 4000 intermediate saves so much time and will also save your 8000. This is the first time ever I have edges that will shave and I’ve been sharpening for about a year now… The last review "Yeti" needs to flatten his stone,... why people write reviews when they know nothing is beyond me?

Knives Slicing like butter!
I bought this for my straight razor that's arriving soon, but I decided to try it on my chef's knives, even though I usually don't go this high in grit. Wow, it made my knives incredibly sharp, with a noticeable bite to them. I haven't used it on my straight razor yet, but once it arrives, I'm confident it will do a phenomenal job.

Top Professional sharpening stone
This is a sharpening stone for a serious woodworker. But it is only one of six that for instance I use:1000, 3000,6000,8000, 12000 in addition to 4 coarser diamond stones from DMT. There are some money in those stones. There are many other makers of artificial stones, but I value Shapton the best because it works perhaps faster than others I used before, it is easy to organize well, as they are thin, they fit in a small rack. With so many stones, organization becomes an issue. However, you must have quality japanese blades that are capable of achieving superiour edge, otherwise it is waste of money.

Best fine-grit stone you can get! Great for fine woodworking!
I've tried a lot of sharpening stones. DMT diamond stones, japanese water stones, oil stones... But these new glass stones are changing the world of sharpening for woodworkers everywhere! The fine grits such as this one are especially amazing for essentially two reasons: they don't soak up water, so they don't have to be ponded like water stones, and they stay flatter and don't wear as fast as water stones. You may think that a diamond stone also has those qualities, and is less expensive, but I can tell you that diamond stones are simply not as good as these! Coarser diamond stones are great, but at higher grits they really suffer, usually scratching your blade up rather than the swarf polishing like how it does for the Shapton glass stones.Basically, I like to use coarse diamond stones (200 to 1000 grit), which stay flat because they don't wear down, plus you can use them to flatten water stones. At about 4000 grit, diamond stones aren't as good, and I am in favor of plain water stones such as King stones (They go out of flat only just slightly faster than the Shaptons, and they don't cut quite as fast, and they have to be ponded before use... But they are cheaper, easier to flatten, last longer because they are so thick, and you can use both sides of them!)But at 8000 grit, Shapton reigns supreme. It just stays flatter longer, cuts so fast, doesn't scratch, and doesn't have to be ponded. This stone seriously cuts like it's a 4000 grit stone, but still polishes like 8000! The size of these stones is perfect, wide enough for jointer plane blades, and plenty of length. This is a stone worth saving your money for!

POLISHING STONE
Cuts fast for how fine it is. I cannot see scratches in anything I polish on the stone. I use it for only woodworking tools. As much as I like sharpening kitchen cutlery, I will not do that on this stone because I dish stones fast with kitchen cutlery but it is a very very hard stone. Would recommend for single beveled Japanese knives and woodworking tools, it cuts faster than my king 6K. I Love this stone.

Required stone fixing out of box
Seems okay so far. Was not flat at all out of the box — I had to really work it with a flattening stone before I could use it. Regardless, I got three Wüsthof knives sharper than they had been.

Honest Review
Very nice stone , but in my hands I feel they lack the feedback of the Pro series of stones. But still a beautiful stone to use. 👍🏻👍🏻
