Q: It leaves a white film on some of my shoes. What am I doing wrong? The damp cloth is orange/yellow after rubbing on the soap.

In my experience (and as recommended by saddle soap producers), cleaning is best accomplished with applying a small amount of the soap to a slightly wet sponge, build up a lather while removing stains, wipe off the excess lather with a barely wet second sponge, let dry, finally buff ("to a soft luster") with a soft dry cloth.

Looks are deceiving ! The weight is 12 OZ with container it weighs 12.4 OZ, also if your into this it is 340g. Hope this clears this up for you.

Q: Does this soften leather? I want something that will soften leather cord and make it pliable for jewelry making.

it will make it softer but deplete natural oils in the leather and cause it to become dry and brittle, Huberds shoe grease is good but I think for what you need it for Mink oil would be the best, it really softens leather and makes it pliable.

Q: How does this differ from Fiebing's Liquid Saddle soap?.

Same thing. One is Paste, one is liquid.
