Q: Looking for a first board for my 14 year old daughter. Would this do?

It depends on skill level, it is a little unstable for the less skilled. I also have a 8’ board and my 13 year old likes that one cause it is wider which makes it more stable. And easier to catch waves.

Q: Is it normal for some screws to not go all the way? It leaves the fins affected kind of lose and not snug, will this be a problem while using it?

They can be a bit loose but not too loose. Needs some tension or yes, they will work loose in the ocean and eventually come off. Make sure the hole isn’t damaged. You can buy those types of screws at car shops like pep boys. Might help. Not uncommon and it’s annoying.
