Q: does the bag come with supplies?

If you want an actual trauma kit don't buy these "trauma bags" I have never seen a decent one that I would buy. They are good for the little league first aid kit and that's about it. If you want something for car accidents, wilderness accidents, violence in the workplace, church, school, etc. (shooting, bomb, etc.) you need to build your own. A good start would be ABD pads, roller gauze (4 or 6 in), CAT (combat application tourniquet), 4x4in gauze, a hemostatic either in powder form like celox or pretreated gauze like quikclot (powder is more versatile but can't be applied in windy situations), good to have a flashlight and something to write with like a sharpie. An antiseptic is good have but if bleeding is life threatening it is a waste of time. If weight and space are of little concern add some sterile saline to flush wounds and cool burns, and splints. If you know how to monitor vitals and do cpr add a face mask or bvm and stethoscope + bp cuff. I like to throw in a few mylar blankets. Training is as important as your supplies. I highly recommend taking a CPR class from AHA and a Stop The Bleed course through stopthebleed.org. If you don't have much time or classes near you watch the AHA hands only CPR video and a few videos on AED use. Stop the bleed has I believe all their training material for free in their resources section.

Q: Will this bag be OK in the heat of the summer in the trunk of a car?

In lower temperatures yes i live in az heat kills this kit.

21x17x9 is the correct size of the bag. It is a great bag and well stocked with everything needed. The soft sided it allows for flexibility and is easy to carry if needed.
