2.4ghz ZigBee 3.0 if that helps answer your question...short of being a smarty pants about it threading into a bulb socket :-p it will use a near by similarly linked device to "hop" to your hub

No, there is not, but this are really reliable lights, I had installed them in almost every room of my house and some of them are almost 7 years old and still working.

Q: Will these function on a preinstalled dimmer switch?

It may depend on the dimmer switch you have. It works with Leviton dimmer switches (to some degree). In this case, if I attempt to use the physical dimmer, it doesn't work. But, if I move the dimmer switch to full (effectively making it just a "regular" switch), I can control the dimmer with either the Philips Hue app or Apple HomeKit.

Q: I don’t have cans installed in my ceilings but only box and directly connected without bulb socket. Will these work ?

No these are retrofit lights for pre-installed cans.
