Six-time Grammy-nominee Florence + the Machine to release hugely-anticipated new album `High As Hope' June 29th via Virgin EMI / Republic Records. `High As Hope' is the sound of an artist who appears more certain than ever of herself. Florence writes about her teens and twenties with a renewed, more mature perspective: of growing up in South London, of family, relationships and art itself. Florence will support the album with a number of forthcoming media appearances.

haunting
Such a haunting voice. Great collection of emotions to sing along to. Usually I'm lucky to like half the songs on an album; this one was 9/10.

Different, but beautiful
If you’re expecting the overproduced sounds of Ceremonials and the rock influence behind How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, then yes you will be disappointed by this album. It’s a different sound compared to any of her previous work, but it is pure and it is beautiful. At first listen, I felt slightly underwhelmed and tried not to compare to her previous work. But on the second listen, you begin to see the details in each song and how they reflect Florence’s troubles with love, family, and life in the limelight. It’s simpler than any other album. Full of ballads, personal poetry, and a pair of “Lungs” that is often imitated but never duplicated.Every single album she releases differs greatly, as with every noteworthy artist. But it’s more of a progression in her artistry rather than a complete change of sound. Give it a try. If you appreciate Florence’s voice, or good music in general, then this album is for you.

You'll always be my favorite ghost
High as Hope is the closest thing to a solo album that FATM have written, with Florence Welch writing and producing the majority of it herself, compiling lyrics from her old poetry. Lyrically, it is clunky because of that, with some too-on-the-nose lines that lack subtlety. It's a more restrained and introspective effort than past albums, but thrives most in darkness and anger in tracks like "Big God" and "100 Years". Meanwhile, the whimsical "South London Forever" looks back at the early days of Welch's acid trip festival frolicking. It lacks a hit, but it doesn't need one.

Great lyrics! Can't stop listening!
The lyrics are incredible, the melodies are addictive. This is the type of album where you listen, then have to hear it over and over, and you catch something new each time. Makes my imagination run wild. It brought back the feel of Lungs and a few songs on Ceremonials. Each song is very distinct but the album blends well. Some of my favorites....South London Forever"Oh, don't you know I have seen,I have seen the fields aflameAnd everything I ever didWas just another way to scream your nameOver and over and over and over again"Sky Full of Song"Hold me down, I'm so tired nowAim your arrow at the skyTake me down, I'm too tired nowLeave me where I lie...I thought that I was flyingBut maybe I'm dying tonight"

Not the same ol' Flo...
...but what were you expecting? If you've followed her, you know that she changes the formula on every studio album. So comparisons to prior albums are of limited use, although some may say that this album, to paraphrase Florence, does not hit you like a bullet in the back. No all-out, foot-stomping, head-bopping rockers or broad, wide-sweeping anthems. They are replaced by a more personal, intimate, and stripped down version of Florence, and she humanizes herself through confessional lyrics, which I find very endearing. It will likely require more than a cursory listening to fully appreciate the beauty and complexity of this album; but if that is not your thing, you will likely be disappointed. However, the exquisite artistry of the music, and its production, deserve to be applauded.

Box cutter sliced thru the record.
Review on the record itself because I can't listen to it at all with this huge box cutter blade slice that goes thru the cover, inner sleeve and side b. Good job. Now when I get a refund I'm still boned because in the few days I ordered it their price went up so I cant afford a replacement. Cool. Great job. You deserve my paycheck and I deserve yours.
