Q: Can I use this to stream from my laptop and pick up remotely on my iphone?

If your connected device to the Slingbox is your laptop or any device which plugs into the composite lead , then the stream is viewable remotely , but for the iphone you will have to purchase the Sling app for this to work .

Q: does slingbox work from freesat dish

No such thing as freesat dish. Any dish used for Sky or Freesat is a satellite dish. Sling boxes are often connected to your router, satellite reciever and TV.

Should work with any free view box, I have it working on a Free sat box

Short answer is yes , but you have to configure the device to be accessible from the Internet before you can do this , once the sling box is configured to do this , any device which is plugged into this can be controlled remotely and if the plugged in device is supported by Sling , once configured you will even have a web based remote for the device to control everything , hope that answers your question
