It does what it says it will do - very well.
The OBDII works fine and the constant live data feature helped me locate an intermittent problem I was having.

Toy not an Instrument
I read the reviews before I made the purchase. I hope that I would get a unit that worked. Imagine a functiional ODBII scanned with live data and no subscription or internet required for $28 delivered seemed to good to be true. I gave it a shot. Turns out it is a toy and not an instrument. It lights up and has impressive menus and functions. Problem it does not report any data!

OBD2 Scanner.
I'm an older seasoned automotive technician, I'm reviewing this product based on my many years of experience in the field using high quality tools and equipment. This OBD2 scanner code reader is for vehicles 96 and newer, scanner will not work with any pre 1996 vehicles. Scanner is the smaller hand held size. Has several onscreen menu options like Read DTC, Erase DTC, and Live data. This is more of a code reader than anything. The diagnostic code is much to short to be considered user friendly. No storage case other than the box. Instruction booklet leaves a lot to be desired, and the small print is not helpful. Might be good for very basic diagnostics. Price point is considered reasonable for this item.

Economical Code Reader
This is a review for the “OnRetul” branded “Professional OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner Tool - Engine Check Light Code Reader, Battery Voltage Tester, I/M Readiness, Reset, and Code Eraser, Suitable for All OBD II Protocol Car & Truck Since 1996”For the price (less than $30) it’s a no-brainer to keep one in every car you own. But realize too, at this price point it’s not anything resembling a pro tool. It will read codes, erase codes, and show some live data. It does not deal with any airbag or ABS stuff, and honestly I’d rather a pro deal with that type of issue. It can’t deal with anything other than generic OBD-II codes for any hybrid vehicle.Don’t expect much help other than a generic definition of what codes your ECU is throwing. The keypad navigation is clunky, but it works. This will tell you about as much as the parts counter guy can tell you at the local auto parts store. This can help you narrow down simple things like an unplugged sensor or a loose fuel cap. That said, I’d rather keep this in the car, rather than a Bluetooth dongle that requires me to download yet another app on my phone. The cord is a bit short compared to other readers I have. It would be even nicer if it included a case.
