We own a 2022 Ford Expedition. For summer vacations we have been renting an Expedition Max or Suburban for extra packing room. Car rental has gone up quite a bit, so I was thinking of maybe just renting a small trailer. Then I saw this idea. This carrier had good ratings and I liked that the license plate could be mounted on the back AND lights were included in the back to extend the rear lights... including braking and blinker. Assembly was straight forward, and installation into hitch receiver was possible for one person, but 2 is better... not so much for heavy weight, but getting the hitch receiver hole lined up to put lockable pin in (included with the product). We had 2 large, 3 medium, 1 small suitcase, 3 box fans, in addition to stacking small boxes, sacks, fishing poles (3) and fishing gear in the carrier. It definitely made our Expedition into a Max version and comfortably let us carry enough for 4 adults and 2 kids on a vacation. High rating for quality, engineering, well thought out functionality, sturdy frame and thick canvass bag to protect contents from weather.

It's really a 4.8 overall. My ordered arrived very quickly, all the components were received, I watched the video for assembly (helpful). I am very happy with this purchase, however, like mentioned by others the tail lights need a better design as far as being able to securly attach to the carrier. I also used electrical tape to secure the lights in place, the overall quality is great (except for the lighting). Perhaps an engineer can create two metal plates ( one on either side of the frame with the tail light positioned in between the plates and the entire set up is bolted together to the frame? The light issue would not stop me from recommending this unit to others, but for the price, one would think this is an easy fix at the assembly site.

We put this on a 17 highlander.It is sturdy and does not move.We had 2 large full coolers and camp chairs tied in.It took 2 of us to assemble but went fairly easy,needed a little you tube help.Wiring the taillights was a little fussy but once done,they worked .I feel like the actual taillights were a little jiggly on the frame so I twist tied some wire around to secure them tightly.The sides fold down which is handy for packing and the back gate folds in a bit so easy to store on its side.This is our only experience with a cargo rack and this was purchased after a lot of research.Met our expectations.Will update review if something goes amiss.

Very happy with this basket. Assembly was fairly easy (though I am also a mechanic by trade so take that with a grain of salt). You will need some basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdriver etc.) to assemble, but otherwise it comes with everything you need. My only complaint is that the anti-rattle clip U-bolt arrived with some damaged threads, but that was a $10 harbor-freight problem. It survived 3k miles behind a Subaru outback with no other issues and I expect to put another 3k miles on it later this year. It did make a little bit of noise going over bumps, but nothing outrageous and does change the handling of my vehicle slightly, but once again, nothing outrageous. It may obscure your rear license plate which, while legal in my state, may not be legal in yours which is why it comes with a license plate bracket. Also, this may block your backup camera, so you'll have to pretend it's 1999 and use your mirrors.

Take your time assembling it. Do not tighten all the bolts until you have it assembled.It does go together relatively easily.The rubber gasket around the lights didn’t stay in place and the assembly fell into the basket.I used black permatex and long zip tie to hold in place.

I contemplated getting this or a small trailer to increase my cargo space for camping supplies. I'm so glad I got this!! It was pretty easy to assemble (though some small details were not included in the instructions, so I had to look them up). Once installed, I got it placed in the hitch with no problem. I LOVE the lock it comes with - gives me more piece of mind about someone not being able to snag it off my vehicle when it's not loaded down. I was super excited about the extra-large cargo bag, but I didn't end up needing this trip. I was able to load it up and use the cargo net. This means I would still have plenty more room if I needed to use the bag. The fact it also comes with the ratchet straps is awesome! Driving with it on was so smooth, I couldn't even tell it was there! At stop lights, I would check in by backup camera and it was still there and secure. I really like the fact it has lights you can attach to your vehicle for extra safety. I chose this over the trailer because I don't have to get is registered and it is much easier to manage the cargo than a roof rack style. We are going camping again in a few weeks and I'm so excited to use it again! Would ABSOLUTELY recommend this product!!

The rack is solid and very heavy. After assembly and mounting to truck the rack sits at a dramatic angle from front to back. It appears the receiver tube is not assembled and bent correctly to allow the rack to rest level. I will be using the rack on the back of a camper to haul vertical Weber smoker. With the height of the smoker and the angle of the rack, I do not have confidence in the rack working as expected, although the rest of the build is good. I have contacted the seller to see if they will correct the issue.

You are done stop shopping this carrier is amazing. Everything is in the box from straps to the bag and net. All lights wires even tape was included. Great for road trips and is easy to install, or convert from carrier to stowed. Just buy it you'll be glad you did.
