Spendy but nice storage capacity and value for money. I like the portability of this drive. Quality seems great. It is easy to use and the design is different but nice. I like that it's stable and not likely to tip over if the cable gets pulled a little.

This SSD comes with everything you need to back up and restore should you be facing any problems.My mac was on the fritz permissions wise so i needed to do a full wipe and upgrade to the latest os.unboxed this, plugged it in, and its already on the right type EXFAT so everything works on mac and windows.got all my data saved pretty fast and restored my mac with EASE. i bought a mini pc and was able to get all my stuff on windows and both ssds backed up should anything else happen so i wont have down time. well worth the money.

More than enough capacity for complete home office. Am using as a primary storage for documents/pictures/music with iDrive for backup but could see it used as a high-capacity backup drive. Decided to stop using OneDrive and Google Drive and easily accommodated what I had on those services. No lag issues with drive access. Runs a little bit hot. No noise whatsoever.

I decided to replace a 10TB standard HDD with this 8TB SSD for use as a Mac "Time Machine" (ie. backup) drive. Unfortunately my first copy of the SanDisk 8TB dead on arrival, it would never appear to my computer, I'm not sure if the power source was bad or what but I tried different cables and different machines, but it was dead. I started a return with Amazon who didn't offer an exchange so unfortunately I had to pay to buy a 2nd copy of this expensive drive in order to get up and running. The 2nd copy has been just fine and is such a wonderful speed increase from my old "spinning platter" HDD. The fact that as a SSD it is totally quiet just finally brings my home office into 2024, it's wonderful. I will say I am now 3.5 weeks past starting my return, a return Amazon received back just days later yet I have not received any refund. Amazon is clear they have the return and also is clear when the latest date I'm supposed to have a refund is, but that will end up a full 5.5 weeks after I started this return which is totally unlike any other return I've handled through Amazon in my last 29 years as a customer. It's disappointing my first copy arrived DOA and despite starting a return the very same day I got the product and returning it immediately I'll be without a refund for 1.5 months and had to outlay a considerable amount of money to get a 2nd copy of this product. It's something you should consider when buying this via Amazon considering not all copies are functioning.

Addressing the elephant in the room, this external requires its own power supply, it cannot simply run off of being connected to a computer. As uncommon as that is today, you should know it before purchasing and if that’s a deal breaker then you need a different external device. If that’s not an issue for you then I would highly recommend this drive. For me, the only limitation is bringing this drive in the field or maybe using It at an airport, which I personally wouldn’t do anyway. It’s not inconvenient to bring it from home to the office or using it in a hotel and even a lot of coffee shops have plugs near tables today. It simply depends on where you are going to need to use it.I use the 8tb with my MacBook Pro to house all of my 100K+ image library for Lightroom and Photoshop work. For the past several years I have shot with a Sony a7R III and Canon R5, both produce large raw files and editing them through this drive, especially complex edits, has been much faster than my prior drives. I do not do any video work, so I cannot speak to how well it would perform, but I would expect very well. The drive is responsive and fast, and (fortunately) I have not suffered from any connection issues. For a “portable” ssd it is on the chunky side, definitely not pocketable, but when sitting on my desk or a hotel bedside table I wouldn’t consider it oversized or inconvenient. I do think it is a bit too pricey, but currently, the options for an 8tb external ssd are limited. If you need (or just want) a large capacity external ssd I would highly recommend this drive, especially if you are considering using it as I do, to carry an image library and run edits through it.

Who makes drives with power adapter in 2024? All of the external SSD drives that I saw, none of them have power adapter, but ok I thought, I use it on my desk and maybe it would be more reliable, NOPE!Drive gets very HOT, but then it would disconnect. WHAT? I though it was a fluke, so I kept itSince the work I do requires me to work on large files and my MAC doesn't have enough space, I work directly on the drive.Second time it disconnected, the whole drive got corrupted. I see the partition, it is greyed out and it is not mounting, I'm pressing the button, but nothing happens. Lost 4 days of work for NO reasonJust stay away, it is not worth it
