Interesting
The product was easy to use, with just a bit of dog hair. The service was good and results came back fairly quickly. I dont know how accurate i take the results to be so i would say to take with a pinch of salt and as a bit for fun and not see them as 100% accurate. But other than that really good!

Nice process but not backed by good evidence
I was really pleased when this hair testing kit came up for review as I was very keen to see if it would pick pick up what my puppy has an issue with, food-wise. I will start with the positives:The presentation and delivery of the hair test is impressive. It comes with everything you need to collect hair samples from your pet: a little comb, a small plastic bag, a returns box and a card with a QR code that you scan to register your test kit. It was a little confusing as the kit provided had a prepaid returns envelope with it, but the email I received after scanning the QR code said that I would need to provide my own. It also said that I would have to print off and send the registration sheet, but this wasn't mentioned on the kit's instructions that I received.Anyway, I packaged up the hairs in the bag, in the box and attempted to fit it inside the pre-paid envelope but it was too small! I ended up having to close up the envelope's tab with sellotape.Three days after posting, I received a confirmation of receipt email. I had also previously received a few introductory emails to the testing process.A couple of days after that, I received and email saying my results were ready and a link via which to view them. The linked document looked very professional, with a long preamble which emphasised that the test highlighted 'sensitivities' NOT allergies. Sensitivities are separated into three categories Food, Environmental and Addivites, and each has two different severities of sensitivities. At the end of the report is a 'Next Steps' section which encourages you to start an elimination diet to help to eliminate the foods which your pet may be sensitive to.All of this is great, however I have a big problem with the science behind hair testing, or should I say, the lack of science! There are absolutely no studies that back up the theory that you can accurately identify any of these sensitivities in hair. Actually, even veterinary IgG blood tests only pick up antibodies that are produced as part of the immune system’s normal response to foods, so they only show what the body has recently been exposed to.My puppy's results show her to be highly reactive to venison (which she is super settled with in her diet), and the following that she's never been exposed to: pea fibre, flaxseed, crab, barley, and oat groats. She is supposedly moderately sensitive to pheasant liver, goat milk, rice, oat, American cheese and anchovy meal (all of which she's also never had). Her environmental sensitivities show she's highly reactive to leather (we have leather sofas which she regularly lounges on), fipronil (she's never had), dog dander (?!) and imidacloprid (which she's recently had as a wormer. She is moderately sensitive to sodium hypochlorite (AKA bleach) and apple tree (we have a hedge of apple espaliers by the path that she uses).Additives that she is highly reactive to are: calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate; she's moderately sensitive to E 307 AlphaTocopherol - which is another name for Vitamin E!For the full picture, my 8 month-old puppy shows NO symptoms whatsoever of intolerances, allergies or sensitivities to any of the things highlighted by the test. The only thing she struggles with food-wise is raw salmon and other oily fish (which I suspect is because of the high fat content). Neither of these were found in her hair test!I have to say that until I am convinced otherwise by valid peer-evaluated scientific research studies, these findings only go to back up my opinion of hair testing as 'snake oil'. Pet owners are often understandably desperate to find out what their pets might be sensitive or allergic to, but I think this is just a waste of time money. Alternatively, I would suggest seeking veterinary advice and if you think that your pet may have a food sensitivity, you can start a food elimination diet without spending money on hair testing.

Easy and Comprehensive Sensitivity Test for Young Pets
I recently used the My Pet Sensitivity Basic Test for my puppy, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. The kit is incredibly easy to use, thanks to the supplied comb and sample wallet. Collecting the hair sample was simple, and I just posted it off. I’m eagerly awaiting the results, which promise a comprehensive analysis of food and environmental sensitivities. This test is perfect for young pets, and I highly recommend it to any pet owner looking for a non-invasive way to ensure their pet's health and well-being.
