If you like to design things in tinkercad (or the 3d software of your choice) and then print them on your 3d printer, you likely have come across the need to fasten two pieces together securely. This is much stronger than glue, and is easy to use. If you have never used these before, check out some videos on youtube. Basically, you design a hole in your printed item, and then use a soldering iron to press these into your holes. Then, fasten with matching screws. Easy peazy!

They are as described and work great in my 3d print projects. Threads are smooth and engagement in plastic is great.

The inserts are easy to install and hold well in the wood if you drill the correct size hole for the type of wood they will go into and depending on inserting in the end, edge, top or bottom of the board. I split my board when placed into the end of the board in a 5/16" hole but that size hole works well if placed in the top or bottom of the board. I ended up using a 3/8" hole for placement in the end of my board without splitting the board with good holding power. This also depends on soft or hardwoods. The 3/8" hole also worked well in MDF. It would be nice if a chart was supply with the inserts with hole sizes for different woods. Other suppliers include a recommended hole diameter and depth chart.

I originally went to a local store to purchase the item, since they claimed they had them in stock. Drove 30 minutes and they could not find them. Got home and logged onto Amazon and they were here the next day!They worked well. No instructions included so if you have not used this type of inserts a quick search on YouTube is recommended. I also ordered another set of heat-set tips for my soldering iron to use on the threaded inserts. They are not needed but makes the job a lot easier.

These look good and come with a hex wrench just in case you don’t have one of the right size.Only reason I didn’t use them, and returned them, is that I decided threaded inserts weren’t going to work for my particular need and I really needed Brad holed tee nuts. But for wood that’s sufficiently hard and thick these should work great.

The rivet nuts seem to be too hard and don't crush easily. I used a pneumatic tool to set these and had many spin out and not set causing me to have to cut them out which was a huge pain. I gave up on them and bought a different brand and had no problem.
