Packed full of the science behind beauty
I have been following Michelle for a long time as being medical myself, I like the way she goes into the science of beauty and bases things on research and evidence. This book is jam packed with everything about skin, hair, nails, makeup and ingredients. She describes in detail about myths, how certain products work on a chemical level, how hair straightening and perming actually works etc.. and also gives great advice on common issues like how to treat frizzy hair, make makeup last longer, hair loss, all about sunscreen of course, the effects of diet on skin etc.The makeup section was also pretty detailed like how pigments are made and what is in lipstick, it was also interesting to know about what ingredients can be harmful and what isn’t. My favourite section was the skincare which makes up most of the book, covering everything from skin types and treating acne to how packaged affects products and in salon treatments. The only negative is some parts are very scientific and hard to really understand, like all the chemical names if you don’t have a science background. But other than that it’s a great book especially for debunking all the myths you hear about and see online.

Amazing evidence based book
I’ve only had it a few days but have read it cover to cover. All the information in it appears to be balanced with an evidence based approach. If the evidence is inconclusive then she says that. She explains the science behind things in a fantastic easy to understand way. This is the perfect book for anyone who wants to learn more about how and why their products work to make better informed choices about their body and care. Would highly recommend.

Not another useless beauty book! Michelle is a truly trustworthy source of all things beauty who debunks a lot of silly myths that are circulating around the internet. She also teaches about how products are made and after reading this you will know much better what products you need for yourself. It covers everything from haircare to skincare and makeup. All while there being lots of beautiful photos throughout, this is a pure joy to read.If you love beauty or know a beauty lover in your life, you/they will love this book!

Decent..!
This is decent enough read if you’re interested in the science behind skincare products, not so much if you’re wanting to know what products to use and in what order, (for that get The Skin Edit by Caroline Hirons), but good for a more in depth look at what goes into products and how that works with your skin.

Scientifically backed up information
Well recommended. There are loads of beauty books out there, but this one is written by someone with a degree/Phd in chemistry. It’s written in a simple way that ordinary folk can understand and explains what works and why and what can’t work and why. The author addresses some of the beauty media hype, current trends (eg “natural is always best”, silicones are bad) and beauty myths, with explanations. The author explains ingredient lists and why they can be misleading and confusing. It doesn’t push any Brands, but instead it gives you all the important facts about ingredients and the different product “types” eg moisturiser, spf cream, hair conditioner, so you can make your own informed choices on what ingredients, type of products will work best for you.It covers- skin, hair, makeup, nails etc.

Great and educational
This is a must for people who are interested in the science of cosmetics or even who are just interested in the bare minimum because Michelle does a fantastic job of breaking down the facts. I came out knowing a bit more about the products I use and the marketing of it too. Thank you!
