A good substitute for my other La Crosse rain gauge that died. It's accurate... most of the time.
These La Crosse rain gauges clearly have a finite life, so rather than spend twice the price for one that hooks up with my La Crosse weather station, I got this. It's working well, and is about as easy as it comes to set up, but the accuracy suffers the same defect as any other teeter totter gauge. When the first rain hits, it takes about .10 to .15 inches of rain to just get the thing moving. After that, it's quite accurate. So when I got my first 1.65 inches of rain, it showed 1.5 inches. But when I got my next 0.60 inches shortly thereafter, it measured 0.60. There is one feature I would have loved to see, and that's a push button light for the LCD, so I could easily see it in the dark without turning on any lights. But that said, the LCD is very good - easy to see from virtually any angle, which is nice.

Not worth the effort
I have purchased about a half dozen remote rain gauges of different brands. None of them have lasted a year before failing.

Do not buy
I had a La Crosse rain gauge that worked fine from 2018 till 2023. When that one stopped working, I bought this unit—very similar looking to my first unit. The base station stopped working after about 3 months. After some back and forth with Customer Service, they sent me a new unit, same model. This one worked OK for maybe a month. Then stopped. The rain collector is not clogged with leaves and the collection buckets move properly. So I guess the problem is that the collector isn’t sending signal or the base station isn’t receiving one. Either way, this unit is worthless. I’m giving up on La Crosse. Quality control is not good. On their website, it looks like La Crosse is out of the stand alone rain gauge business. Now they are pushing high cost weather stations for your roof. But they still use the same method for measuring rain. I’d stay away from those for sure.

Good purchase
I bought this for my husband as a birthday gift. I think he was surprised and likes it. It is really nice to track the amount of rain. It is especially nice to not have to remember if we had dumped out the rain in our traditional rain gauge. Also can check how much rain has fallen without going outside and getting wet during a rain event. So far, we are pleased with this purchase.

Stupid functionality...
This unit's rain 'event' function works in a really stupid way... it's called "Now" and it resets when there's been a rain pause of just 30 minutes. So if you want to see how much it rained last night, and if the rain stopped more than 30 minutes ago it will just say 'zero'. My previous rain gauge, an AcuRite 0899, did that function the right way... it only resets after an 8 hour rain pause. That is much more intuitive functionality.(I don't, however, recommend the AcuRite gauge because the outdoor unit isn't built very well and you'll have to replace it every couple of years.)You can set these things to show the rain that fell in the last 24 hours, but that's not as good as it sounds because that reading will slowly count down as the last event recedes past 24 hours ago which kind of messes with your head. The 24 hour and 7 day readings are useful when you want to query the unit, but the "event" reading is best for everyday use.I think the perfect rain gauge would be built well enough to last, say, 5 years... it would have the AcuRite style "Event" reading... and it would also have a seven day bar graph display...

Corrodes too quickly
The rain gauge worked great for 9 months, then stopped. The battery compartment does not seal properly and mositure gets in and corrodes the battery. The platic latch does not close the door completely and there is no gasket either. I would not purchase until this is corrected by the manufacturer. It is destined to fail. You'll love it til you hate it.

Rain catcher
It has been very accurate, i like that I can see how much rain right now, 24hours, week and even for the year snd see the rain amounts. The one thing caught me off guard it has alarm and must have set it on the rain amount for now and a thunderstorm at 2am lots od rain and alarm went off, took me a few to realize what was going off😀
