No, the lifts are plastic . I use it on a rug with problem of slipping.

Q: Where can I buy additional risers?

You May want to contact the manufacturer but I don’t think you will need them when they are all on. It may not be stable enough if you tried to make it higher than what it comes with.

Q: Can this unit be adjusted higher than 12" with additional pieces?

The additional risers are 2 inches thick each so the highest you could get the platform off the floor is 4 inches.

Q: Can this be used to set outside a door to step down on?

It is all plastic and could be used outside. Not too attractive, however.
