Magnetic Travel Chess Set, Portable Mini Chess Board Game for Adults and Kids (Classic Edition)

I ordered 3 of these magnetic chess sets for myself and two of my sons because of good customer reviews and the very reasonable price. They were delivered securely packaged promptly within the 10 day period as expected. I am delighted with the quality of the folding chessboard, which latches securely when closed with ample room for storage of the chess pieces, and with the quality of the chess pieces themselves, which are nicely detailed and made of a solid plastic material, rather than made of crudely carved wood pieces as I had feared might be the case at this price. All the pieces for "Black" (actually a nice dark brown) and for the White pieces were present and complete for all three sets, and were separately stored in elegant cloth & cord tied pouches. The bases of all pieces were nicely covered with thin felt which slide smoothly over the smooth surface of the chessboard. The magnetism at the base of each of the pieces is sufficient to hold the pieces in place against jostled movements of the chessboard, and yet the magnetism is light enough to make movement of the pieces by hand easy from square to square without lifting or disturbing the chessboard. The folding chessboard itself is made of sturdy plastic with a simulated wood appearance which when open is large enough for easy convenient playing of Chess across the board, and yet when folded is a convenient size for carrying in a briefcase or carry on luggage. I have standard size larger chessboards and chess pieces, but I bought this smaller magnetic set so I could play with it on my lap while sitting up in bed and replaying through some of the chess games played by some of the Grand Masters, for which purpose this little Chess set works perfectly! One small consideration is that for persons with large hands and thick fingers, the pieces themselves might be just a bit smaller than they would like, although the sizes of the pieces for this small set are quite fine for me, and I realize they needed to be kept a certain size so the level of magnetism would insure that the pieces would not be displaced or knocked over if the chessboard was jostled about or bumped. This little magnetic Chess set would also work well I suspect for use between two players in a moving vehicle. All in all, I am delighted with the quality and the medium small size of this magnetic Chess set for enjoyable play in conditions when the chessboard might be subjected to unintended movement, and, in my opinion, the quality of this set would be a bargain at twice the price, and I would not hesitate to recommend this set, and the "ColorGo" Suppliers for their reliability, to anyone who would be seeking such a smaller Chess set for the purposes which I have described. 16. I picked up this chess set to take along for an upcoming Safari excursion I have planned to have something to do between game viewing. I needed something very small and lightweight. On first look, this set delivers. It seems reasonably well built. The magnets seem a little weak, to me, but testing them out, they do work. Even tilting the set sideways, all but the largest pieces held in-place. The pieces are stowed in little drawstring bags, which is convenient since it leaves space for a deck of playing cards. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase and look forward to enjoying some games while relaxing during my upcoming travel. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a portable, inexpensive chess set.

A better quality travel chess set - easy to play. But it is a tad large when traveling light. This is not a real disadvantage, but you should buy a travel set that reflects your travel requirements. It is one of the better travel sets that I have.

Let's keep this short: the magnetism is good, the latch works well, the size is good, and the pieces are separated in color coded bags (such a good detail).One piece does separate from it's base, but that's easily fixable. The look is not elegant, but includes the ranks and files that would help a beginner learn.Overall, we are pleased. Excellent quality for the price.

The pictures for this product are very accurate, so there's not much else to say. It's inexpensive while still feeling well made. Durability wise, the only thing I'm worried about is the plastic "hinges." I could do without the fake-wood board sticker, but overall it's a decent looking set. Very travel friendly (about the size of a bible), but it's still large enough to easily play. My only issue is that some pieces are less magnetic than others. One knight in particular can easily slide off the board and take other pieces down with it. It's still a good value, and I'm happy with my purchase.

The website does disclose that the length is slightly longer than the width, but I thought that it may have been due to the boarders at the top and bottom of the board. Unfortunately, the "squares" of the board are actually rectangular, and so is the entire board. Although this may not bother some players, it was distracting enough that I decided to return it and my money was refunded without question.To be fair, the rest of the set was pretty good for a travel set; the pieces came with nice drawstring bags and the pieces, themselves, were okay and had a good lining underneath to protect the board from scratches. The construction of the board (besides the dimensions mentioned above) was fine and it likely would have withstood years of good use. The price was also right (on Amazon Prime Day). However, I just could not play on a rectangular board.

I did a lot of research before buying this set. I wanted it to keep my kids entertained on airplane trips.About the only negatives I can think of is that the squares are not completely square, but they are not much off.The magnetism is light indeed, as others have reported, but we have had no trouble with pieces moving during turbulence. They don't move at an approx. 30-degree angle, which is quite enough for my purposes.The pieces are very well finished, the size is small but not impossible to work with, and the included bags are very helpful as well.The only thing I can't report about is durability, since we bought this set recently, but it looks well made.I recommend it without hesitation.
