Audio Effects, Mixing and Mastering

Right from page one this little book is full of sound (no pun intended) advice. The advice is based around Cubase but I find the advice is still relevant to other DAW’s I use GarageBand. I found there is just about the right balance between straightforward information and technical jargon. Everything is well explained for instance when discussing compression, why it is used , what effect it has, how to apply it etc.All in all a great value handy guide well worth the money.

Great book which includes lots of concise details about how to create a basic mix and how to then improve on it!

If you're looking for a weighty tome of audio engineering detail, this £4 book isn't going to satisfy your thirst, but for what I was looking for - a quick read that helps get you positioned for your fledgling first steps in mixing - it's perfect.I happen to be using Cubase as well (which the book uses for the majority of its references) which makes the examples completely relevant to my use cases, but don't let that deter you if you're using a different DAW - the concepts are all general and - unless your DAW simply doesn't include a particular plugin - the material can be applied to any platform.The book has a logical flow from the whys and wherefores of each of the significant signal processing tools to offering some examples of where they should or, just as as importantly, shouldn't be used.Each section is well edited to give you the essential information without (unnecessary) repetition, and includes relevant images to help illustrate what's going on in the audio realm.I picked up a couple of other books (which Amazon recommended as a bundle) along with this one, and the truth is, this single book was all I really needed - the others having a style that starts to grate after a few pages. ("Turn the page and I'll tell you about a technique that'll change your life!", "On the last page I told you I was going to change your life, but before I do that...")So - 5 stars - a really well put together book that I'll keep on my desk and I'm sure I'll refer to often as I go through my mixing journey.

I bought this book on a whim because of the price in the hope it would be some help and what I got was exactly what I needed. Clear concise information and without confusing jargon but I don’t feel patronised I feel enlightened. As a newbie audiobook narrator this book is essential!

I didn't understand some of it as I am a novice could of explained some things in a easier way but this book has taught me some new things and which shall help me

I highly recommend this book. While it is modest in size (109 pages), it is extremely well written and packs a lot of info that was exactly what I needed. It explains the main mixing and mastering plugins really well, for those with gaps in their knowledge. Each chapter includes and excellent concise summary at the end. It's a gem of a reference book.

Tt was pretty straight forward you could understand what he meant in most places. A few things sounded contradictory but all in all it was informative.

This is an excellent little book. It tells you exactly what you need to know about the core effects for mixing and mastering. Aimed at any level of experience there is no waffle.
