Seriously good varnish, well worth the expense
I bought the satin polyvine wax varnish to use on oak. It goes on beautifully, brushes out very nicely without leaving brush marks. I did 3 coats - after the first one I sanded with 180 grit, as it raises the grain. After the second I sanded with 380 grit. After the final coat I very lightly sanded with 600 grit, though rubbing with cardboard or a paper bag would have been as effective (using cardboard or paper bag is a tip I learned from professional finishers). It feels lovely to the touch, and you see the wood and grain rather than a varnish layer. It looks very natural.I chose the satin finish as I needed a more durable coat than the dead mat gives. They say the dead mat doesn't give much protection from water, but if a dead mat finish is required but that gives water protection to do 2 coats satin then finish with dead mat. I wanted to keep the cost down so just went for the satin but I wasn't sure if the satin might be too glossy. It wasn't. It is a subtle satin. A perfect finish that looks very professional.

Brilliant stuff
I dont normally get a chance to write product reviews but I felt I really should with this product. In short, its amazing! We've painted a tired looking solid wood sideboard and its given it a new life. The colour and texture is brilliant. It goes on so easily and is easy to clean up simply with WATER,It took a good three coats to make the sideboard completely grey but I could recoat every 45 mins on average as it set very quickly. All of the grain is still visible so the finish looks outstanding. If I'd used eggshell it would have covered over the lovely wood grain. Once dry we wanted to test its hardyness. On the side of one of the draws wjere damage would be visible we tested with a boiling hot mug of water (to see if it would leave a heat ring stain - NOPE. I poured some of the boiling water onto the wood, left for 5 minutes and then wiped away. There was the very fainted difference in that the sheen had been taken off the very tiniest bit. I then poured some warm water on and wiped away. - No damage at all. Could be happier and will DEFINITELY buy this again.

Very good quality varnish but not flat matt.
I used it on chairs and cupboards on top of chalk paint hoping it would not change the colour of paint but it did. It is a very good varnish, just my expectations were perhaps difficult to meet :) It is easy to work with, dries quite quickly and there is no odour. The only minus is, it is not flat matt, in my opinion it is more like satin. I also bought satin finish and it is quite shiny, almost gloss like.

Such a great and easy to use varnish
This varnish is so easy to use and dries to a perfect finish in no time. As I said the finish is just perfect as looks like a wax with the protection and longevity of a varnish. I just wish they made one durable enough for floors in in this finish! I have purchased their satin floor varnish and yet to use but fingers crossed I'm just as happy.

Great results but don't try to rush it!
Tried this for the first time on two twenty-year-old jaded, but good quality, pine chest of drawers following a bedroom refurb and we're very happy with the results.Thickness straight out of the bottle is somewhat like a good quality gloss paint. It soaks in quickly on fresh sanded pine furniture, so do not overdo the brushing and do not apply it too thick. Follow the grain and finish off your strokes in one movement, along the entire length of the panel you are coating, and you'll be just fine. One coating dried a little patchy, but the second coat dried perfectly on our freshly sanded drawers (we used a palm sander, much quicker) leaving a lovely, semi matt finish, with plenty of grain still showing through (as in the photos).Don't over brush it: Don't use too much (it goes a long way): Don't apply the second coat too quickly: Don't leave your brushes standing, or leave the residual liquid too long, as this stuff sets very quickly when stood in the open. So don't pour to much out of the bottle. As I've already said, this goes a long way. One bottle was enough for two coats on two large chests of drawers, taking around 5 hours each from start to finish, including the sanding.

Wax finish protection .
Super product from a reliable brand.I upcycle furniture and usually use polyvine heavy duty varnish but for my latest piece I wanted a dead flat finish with no sheen .I found this wax finish version easy to use, its low odour and super fast drying.I used a brush to apply it to my charcoal painted table, it went on milky and dried completely dead flat with no sheen, exactly what i wanted. It looks and feels like the wood has been waxed but has been varnished .It offers good coverage and a perfect finish , no brush strokes visible.Definitely be using again and again.

Top Notch!
I up-cycle furniture as a hobby and like a dead flat finish. I found that leaving paint unprotected lead to chips and a tatty finish. So, I tried this. I cannot fault this varnish. It protects the paint brilliantly, and you can safely avoid cup marks etc with it. The finish is dead flat. It’s very very easy to apply (I use a roller), and goes a really long way. One tiny word of caution - it does slightly darken the paint colour. Just bear this in mind when selecting your paint choices and it’s no problem. 👍
