Aural Training in Practice, ABRSM Grades 6-8 Paperback – 15 Mar. 2012

ABRSM are going through a big period of change right now and are struggling a fair bit to get into the current century when it comes to technology. I had to go out and buy a CD burner because I got rid of all our CD players at least 10 years ago and this book comes with no downloads just CDs :(. However, as a modernist, I still do have loads of respect for the ABRSM.This is otherwise a perfect run through all ABRSM aural exams Grades 6-8. Laced with dozens of examples for each grade and numerous mock examinations. Beautifully presented with the right amount of detail. Friendly and accessible. I particularly enjoy how this book layers each grade based on its predecessor. An outstanding book. Is this suitable for children? It depends. By design, this book is very much written from an examiners' perspective and it has a strong leaning towards the piano (as do the actual aural examinations themselves). Mid to older teenagers will get this. If much younger, it really depends upon how independent the learner, style of learning and the level of buy in from teacher/ parent.

Brought on recommendation from my daughters singing teacher.....I did lots of £ checking before I brought this from Amazon which was by far the cheapest especially with the free p and pMy daughter is still studying for her grade 6 so can't tell if it works yet!! However it has CDs and the text is easy to follow I believe it's a book well worth buying to aid your exam .......of course it's really down to the studying and hard graft but this can only help!

Will help with preparing for exams or at home with the CD’s included. Many practice examples too !

Seems like an excellent book. An audio download code is provided on the inside cover, however, the product description on Amazon specifically states that the book comes with a cd. The copy I ordered did not arrive with a cd. I have just requested to return this copy and for a replacement to be sent. Fingers crossed the new one arrives with said cd.

I was wondering whether it was worth getting this new edition book as I already own the old version of it. I am very pleased I did! It is much more informative, easier to read and understand. The new CD's are very good, one for each grade and there is a track list and answers at the back of the book.

The book includes 3CD which quite useful for my students. However it will be more convenient if we could listen the music online directly.

Excellent. Taught me how to sing from score and definitely cleared up my problems with texture. I am a student, not a teacher, but it helped me hugely with grade 6 and I can use it for 7 and 8 as well.
