I use this type of a micrometer to measure the wall thickness of crankshaft rod and main bearings. An essential measuring device for the serious engine builder. I'm impressed with the quality of this micrometer. The storage case is an additional plus. The price is very reasonable.

I usually measure rod and main bearings with an outside mic and a dial bore gauge. But just for the hell of it I ordered it to see by measuring bearing thickness and doing the math the numbers came up almost the same by + or - 0001”. Not bad at all. But do not do this with a standard mic u need that ball tip.
