Gemological Gemstone Gem Refractometer Built-in Light

I am just a hobbyist but I have found this tool of great use in checking out my collection of semiprecious and precious stones.I bought most of my stones from a reliable dealer in Thailand but have also collected beads and stones from Mineral and Gem shows. It feels awesome to me to be able to verify that I wasn't cheated in terms of buying real gems and not just leaded glass or colored rock crystal or quartz masquerading as another stone entirely due to coloration.I know I cannot gauge the quality of the stones accurately as I am not a trained gemologist, but just being able to check if they are real or not is fantastic to me.This is a great tool and the price is so reasonable considering the quality. It is also so portable and I can't wait to start using it 'out in the field' when I go on vacation again and go to the gem dealers.Just a reminder that you have to buy the oil that is needed to check the stones refractive properties with and it does not automatically come with this purchase. It is a little steep in price but a bottle lasts a long time as you only need a drop for testing purposes.

I like this product but it does require some studying to figure out how to use it correctly. Good quality. Don't forget to purchase some refractor oil. It's needed to use this. Overall, I'm happy with this.

I do not know how to use it is useless to me.. It did not come with any information or kit.

This item did not come with instruction and now the light has gone out. I thought it would be a battery but it seems to be the whole lighting component. I don’t know who to contact about this. I am a newly certified Gemologist.

It is excellent value for the money. I had one that I purchased from the GIA in 1979 and the hemi-cylinder got very scratched. It was less expensive to purchase this one, than have the cylinder resurfaced. It does what it is suppose to do. I only wish it had an AC adapter instead of just running on batteries.

I have used the refractometer on several gemstones and got back accurate readings. the readings are for the most part very clear. this product comes with a nice zipper soft bag which fits nicely inside a hard vinyl case. The refractometer is small enough to take on field trips too. This is the perfect refractometer for beginner who isn't prepare to spend $500.00 or more on a professional grade refractometer

I had to guess how to put the batteries in. One of them fell into the battery hole and I had to fish it out. No instructions came with the product and no oil. I would have expected at least enough oil to test it and for a few uses. ... Disappointed.
