Q: Are these gloves puncture-proof so as to prevent splinters while handling firewood?

No they are not puncture proof. but they will take a heck of a beating. If you are doing firewood you will want to get a pair of all leather gloves. I used my mechanix gloves for firewood last year, they were comfortable and worked well but they ripped out in a short time the seems don't hold up very long especially with firewood. I did really like wearing them while running the chain saw but these gloves are made more for protecting your hands from scrapes and sharp pieces of metal while turning wrenches. I loved the pair that I own but they don't hold up to the firewood. just get a cheep $5 pair of all leather gloves you will be happy with them.

Q: How does the sizing run?

I think it's pretty accurate. I wear a small and they fit about perfectly.
