I'm A DIY...This Is Great For Checking Receptacles!
My home was built before 1970 so I have retrofitted most of the electrical wiring. It's an ongoing process and this product is excellent for diagnostic purposes. My two most common problems are 1) Not enough circuits and 2) All circuits weren't properly grounded.Computers and sensitive electronics came after the build. Same with blow dryers, microwaves, Laptops, tablets...Plugged in a new UPS and it told me there was a problem. Used this Klein tester and it was easy see that I didn't have a proper ground. The display is bright the pictures told me the problem. Sensitive for proper readings but tough enough to use regularly without worrying. It has a pocket next to my volt meter in my tool bag. I recommend and would buy again. Though I don't anticipate needing one unless I lose this one.

Probably the best one for the price
I was replacing a previous unit which now receives on a modest review score. So I read reviews of several models before buying this one. Of course, it it not possible to confirm that it is working properly unless you intentionally mis-wire an outlet to see what it shows. I did not do this, which explains the 4-star rating I gave it for Accuracy; it may well deserve 5 stars. However I can report that the display is easily visible and shows that the power outlets I tested were all good (no faults). It seems well made and should not crack apart unless stressed greatly. I did not do this either!

building , AC outlet tester
turn off main breaker when workingin the breaker box.tests basic functionality at a 120 volt AC outlet .110 to 125 volt , 50 hz , 60 hzthe quality at the outlet may not be fully know .a DVM digital volt meter will be needed tomeasure for any possible voltage on Ground .i fixed the issue before i received this tester .last year i had 2.5 volts on ground.recently i was measuring 6 volts on ground .Earth ground Rod to ground bus bar , 6 voltsEarth ground Rod to neutral wire , 0 voltsneutral bus bar to ground bus bar , 6 volts .breaker box , looked like it had been wired correctly .then i heard about theGreen Bonding Screw .theGreen Bonding Screw is a single point tie pointthat connects ties ground bus bar and neutral bus bar .the Green Bonding Screw is found on the neutral bus barin the breaker box .tightened the Green Bonding Screwa couple of thread pitches . 0 volts , perfect .the contracter installers did NOT check verify their work .Ground bus bar was tied to breaker panelNeutral bus bar was tied to Earth ground Rod.however ,the ground bus bar was NOT touching the neutral bus bar .By intention , the Neutral bus bar does NOT touch the breaker panel .instead , the Green Bonding Screw is ALL important to provide thesingle point contact ( helps to prevent ground loops to )i got this outlet tester for trivial usewhen something doesn't check good , you willneed a DVM digital volt meter to do some actual troubleshooting .breaker box needs to work first :3 measurements:earth ground rod to neutral bus bar , 0 voltsearth ground rod to ground bus bar , 0 voltsneutral bus bar to ground bus bar , 0 voltseach outlet has 3 measurements :hot to neutral , 120 volts ( same )*hot to Gnd , 120 volts ( same )*neutral to Gnd , 0 volts .
