Great for talents of ALL kinds!
I think calling these 'crayons' kinda suggests a lower quality, that is NOT my experience. I've been an artist since birth I believe lol! I also teach children/young adults, on a 1:1 basis. These 'crayons' are ONLY limited by the constraints YOU put on your creativity. I've found that the amount of pigment in each color is equal to, if not better, than some I've paid MUCH more for. The colors mix, layer, and blend very well. I've been working w a 13yo & using these crayons was my 1st intro to watercolor for her, it went BEAUTIFULLY. Although water color is not MY medium of choice therefore my knowledge is limited in THAT medium, it's important for me to be able to at least give her an intro to it(it MAY turn out to be HER medium of choice) and these crayons make it much easier for me to do that. Not to mention I do this as a way to give back so the price point gives me more of an opportunity to be able to send a student home w the tools they can use to experiment at home. Art is all about play... never lose that ability!

Crayola Signature Watercolor Crayons - Way Better Than Expected!
These crayons sat in my Amazon cart for the longest. Every time I considered purchasing them, I came across another not-so-good review. I finally ordered them anyway. This is the first sketch I did with them.Review: They are slightly softer than Neocolor II but still firm. They also have a bit of an oil pastel feel.I suspect the issue many people have with these crayons is that, depending on the paper, the sketch marks remain. I don’t mind this. In fact, I like it. If I wanted them to dissolve completely, I’d use watercolor. So, use their properties to your advantage. There are only 12 colors but that's not an issue since you can mix any color you need from these.Smearing doesn't seem to be an issue but if you're concerned, you can always spray it with fixative.Would I buy them again? Yes. I enjoyed working with them. The box is sturdy, and the tray is firm enough to keep the crayons from breaking, which is good. But if I take them with me, I’ll carry them in a small gift card tin.

Easy to use and smooth on paper
Better than higher priced ones I have purchased. Used for mixed media and gel pens and markers write smoothly on them, Blend well and great for all water color projects. Do not run all over the paper when water added.

So neat
I wasn’t quite sure what these were until we use them. They are definitely a need to medium to create art.

First time attempt with coloring book paper
I’m an enthusiastic adult coloring book person so when I got an ad about watercolor crayons curiosity called and I had to try them out. I have expensive pencils but I love my Crayola pencils just as much so after comparing the 12 pack of Crayola watercolor crayons to other brands I decided for a first time attempt the Crayola was a good deal. My original thought was that I might use this for large background areas that I want colored.Inside the box of 12 Crayola has included a very nice instruction sheet along with a clear hard plastic mixing sheet and a paintbrush is on the tray with the crayons. This is a really nice touch for a first timer! Everything but your paper and water is ready for you to start like a small kit!The instructions do suggest using watercolor or mixed media paper for best results. I of course had none so I scoured my coloring books to see what might have the best paper and easiest design to play (ruin) on. Although not shown in my picture the back of the instruction sheet includes how to use the watercolor crayons on dark or black paper. They really did try to help a newbie!Okay so off I went with my picture pulled out from a book called Animal Mosaics by Dover publishing. You can buy it from them or here. I chose the parrot bird thinking it would let me use all the colors and let me try blending. For the first time attempt using them I can’t say it’s a ruined picture. I do think I oversoaked many areas but the areas I tried blending aren’t too bad. The paper did curl but after being weighted down overnight it’s not too bad. Had I copied the image onto watercolor paper as instructions recommended it probably would have looked great. My worst complaint is that it was very difficult to hold the crayons. The paper sleeves kept shifting off and they were soft and would mark up your hand very easily. It was messy doing this. But this might be able to be fixed by holding it a different way and I do really like that the box included more than just the crayons.Overall I am glad I got a small pack at a decent price as I think this is something that needs practice with before it can be given a fair recommendation review.
