An essential read for parents and nonparents
I’ve bought this book for countless new parents and for friends who were conflicted about whether to become parents. After first reading this book, when my son was about one, I felt like I *finally* understood my role as his mom.I’m by no means a perfect parent (spoiler: you don’t have to be) and my son came equipped with a TON of energy - not most people’s idea of an easy kid. This book has helped me cultivate a warm, relaxed relationship with my little lunatic, where I have space to blow it and apologize and he has space to be a kid, mostly unburdened by the faulty attachment signals I inherited from my less-resourced parents. It is mind-blowing to watch his experience of childhood unfold so differently from how mine did. He’s so comfortable in the world, trusting himself, and loving others. Also, on my worst parenting days, the lessons I learned in this book keep me focused on the practical ways I can get back in the game instead of shame spiraling. Can’t recommend the book enough.

I recommend this to everyone I know
This is one of the best books I've read, period. I'm not a parent, so some folks might not appreciate this review, but reading this book gave me so much perspective on my own upbringing, and on my parents' upbringing. I have childhood trauma, and so does one of my parents, and reading this book helped me understand them and see their own parenting style in a new lens. This book gave me compassion and empathy for myself and my parents and to everyone, really. This book showed me how parenting affects children, and to better understand the people around me. It suddenly became clear that the behavior of friends, family, and strangers, was so clearly impacted by some lack of security in their upbringing. There's so much more I could say, but bottom line, I hope many people read this book, whether or not you have children. I came back to review this book after 2 years because I'm about to buy several copies for friends about to have their first kid. I also whole heartedly disagree with another review on amazon saying this book didn't have practical info - it very much does. If you internalize the lessons in this book, there are so many practical applications.

The information in this book, which is based on decades of research, has changed how I think about relationships. It has made my life better, my marriage better and certainly is making my children's lives better. This isn't just some person's opinion on how to raise children - this approach has been proven through research in attachment and research in the neurosciences. This also isn't some American-centric approach - this approach has been used all over the world to make relationships healthy. On their website (circleofsecurityinternational.org), they have more information and lists of providers all over the world. There are classes, blogs, a FaceBook page, YouTube videos and more to support people as they learn this information. It's a really helpful resource.I wish every person, and certainly every parent, had access to this information. Parenting is hard but having this solid roadmap helps make sense of it and gives me many many more moments of enjoying my children, setting boundaries and feeling connected to them. Our children range from infant to 18 years old and it applies to all of them!

A must read for all parents
An eye-opening book that helps you set the foundation you need to raise a secure and emotionally intelligent child. I appreciated the examples in the book and the details that helped elaborate all the important points. I also liked how adult attachment styles were also mentioned in the book so everything came full circle. This is a valuable book I’m sure I will be re-reading as a parent.

Awesome tool for parents!
Awesome tool for parents! If you need a book to help give you a 'road map' to navigate the adventures of parenthood and how to best help your child manage big feelings and confusing actions, this is the book! It certainly helped me make 'sense' of what my children were trying to communicate to me through their actions. It has truly changed the way I interact with them on a daily basis and has improved our relationship almost immediately. Written in a clear, easy to understand way, with lots of positive affirmations for parents, you'll end feeling like you can do it and that you are enough; not beaten down and depressed that you've messed everything up like some parenting books leave you feeling. Raising A Secure Child is a great book for new parents and seasoned parents alike! It will surely become a tried and true parenting classic!!

Best Parenting Book EVER
Occasionally an exceptionally easy baby is born to parents with little emotional baggage and few life stressors, who live in an perpetual state of Om. This book is for the rest of us. Drawing from a stunningly deep well of compassion and wisdom, the authors translate decades of science and clinical experience into a user-friendly guide to understanding our children's needs and how our own history affects our ability to accurately perceive and appropriately respond to those needs. Vivid imagery, humor, and forthrightness compel us to let down our guard and take an honest look at our interactions with our children. This would be unbearable if it were not for the unshakable sense that judgment has no place in the hearts of the authors or in this paradigm. We are in good hands with these guys, and they will inspire us to be "bigger, stronger, wiser, and kind" for our children, just as they are for us.

Clear and Succinct
A great dive into secure attachment, and how we can build our parenting around ensuring security for our children. As a new mom, I really appreciated the plethora of examples and prompts within the book. This is a book I’m sure I will find myself coming back to again and again as my child gets older.
