Great reflections for Eldering Years
We used this book as a group study on Zoom with 11 women (all of us over 65 years). The insights and reflections were spot on and it gave us some excellent discussions as we continue to support and inspire one another. We did a chapter each week and were amazed at how much we all had in common. We are pilgrims together on our spiritual journey to the Lord. Thank you Janet Schaeffler, for such an inspiring and spiritual book.

Not a bucket list
Sr Janet outlines 12 “tasks” of eldering, or growing older. The style is very encouraging and communal, as she draws from a variety of elders to illustrate each principle. In the beginning of the book, she mentions that there’s not just one spirituality for people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and more… and as I read I could see where some things are more appropriate to the early elders. At other times, I could see how someone with a serious sickness is thrust into these same issues of “second half” of life….All in all, a good book to unpack slowly and journal with as one processes their own eldering journey.

particularly excellent reflection questions
I especially loved the reflection and discussion questions that close each chapter. These have been excellent to journal about but could also see them being wonderful to discuss in a small book group,

Helps one to feel positive about aging in our society.
I wish I had read this book 5 years ago. Very well written and easy to understand on the importance of aging, how society views it and what is in your power to do about it. So helpful.
