You don't have to turn it off but you can to save battery life. To turn it off turn it over, there is an on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse,

Q: How long is the mouse? Would like to use it for a laptop an don't want a full-sized mouse. I have another one that's only 4" from front to back.

It's approx. 3 7/8" long by 2 1/4" (approximate because it is an irregular shape, and should be no more than a 1/16" off) Should do the trick for you. I use it for my laptop and love it! I hope this helps :)

There is a slide-off panel on the bottom of the mouse. Remove it and replace the AA battery inside.

Fast little mouse and accurate

This mouse is very responsive and I like that it just has a regular batter so that you there is no downtime to recharge. And the ittle receiver has a spot INSIDE the mouse so it does not get lost in travel.

WOrks great with my laptop

I am not a fan of the touchpad built into laptops, and I much prefer a mouse. This mouse comes with the adapter to plug into the laptop and it even had batteries, so I had it working within minutes of opening the package. It works flawlessly even with an ancient laptop.
