Q: Every time I use this it leaks all over the coffee maker. Why?

I've never had this issue. This pod is designed to hold ground coffee about 1-2 tablespoons. If the lid doesn't close, remove some of the grounds. It only fits in the pot 1 way. Make sure the lid is closed as you would with any other pod or kcup. I let mine cool off before removing it. There could be some residual water in it...I've only experienced a few drops moving from the coffee maker to the trash to empty it.

Q: Does the bottom of the pod still have a small circle of mesh?

No, it's divided into quarters. I've been using now for a week and it is much improved with flow through. I highly recommend getting the two pack with the scoop. The scoop keeps making coffee clean. It is ingenious!
