It’s definitely ALA, which is an acid, so I should have known it would smell and taste funny. Well it does somewhat, but not too bad. haha I’m just putting it in a tall glass of water, mixing it well and swigging it down. Taste isn’t bad, but it will burn a little bit when it hits the throat. I also take a couple tablespoons of high quality olive soon as I get up everyday and it burns going down too, but tastes so good. Not giving a bad review since I decided to save $ and go with a powder form. If you think this smells bad, try the NAC powder on for size. Stay healthy! 🙂

I used the 2/4 teaspoon it was like it multiplied into like a paste. I said well maybe this is normal. So I took a sip out of my cup. Some of it stuck to my lip like caulk and my tongue. It immediately started burning my lips and tongue like fire. I went to wipe it off and literally had to scrape it off. Some stuck to tonsil and I literally had to cough and cough and drink liquids for about an hour. I am literally worried right now about someone working at that company trying to hurt people. Do not , and I repeat DO NOT buy this.

It's hard for me to say anything about health benefits. I take a lot of meds and other supplements. At least, it didn't do anything obviously bad to me.What compelled me to write this review was the taste and smell. Let me just save you some time. Just buy the capsules. Yes, per dose, they cost more, but overall, you're better off with capsules. It has a strong peppery (like black pepper) taste, and a strong garlic-like smell. If you add it to a sugar-free fruit punch for example, first of all, it'll be a Herculean task to get it to dissolve. And your reward will be peppery, garlicky fruit punch!Let's presume that you add it to plain water and just chug it down. Or you're thinking, if it's peppery and garlicky, why not add it to food? It degrades very quickly at high temperatures, yes, even the temperatures at which people enjoy eating hot foods, e.g. soup. So, could you add it to cold, acidic foods, e.g. salad? Yes. But I think it degrades on exposure to air and light--I'm just not sure how much.But, wait--there's more! It's best absorbed on an empty stomach. This brand has capsules available that are pretty inexpensive. Just get those.

I take with Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALCAR) Powder. Biochemist Bruce Ames of UC Berkeley said his research showed acetyl L-carnitine was fuel for sluggish, damaged, aging mitochondria (which convert sugar into chemical fuel for cells), thus should boost energy levels, but accelerated mitochondria were then producing even more free radicals, which were further damaging the mitochondria. Alpha lipoic acid was a powerful antioxidant that neutralized the free radicals and protected the mitochondria. So they should be taken together. Supposedly slowed down natural aging by boosting slagging mitochondria and preventing further damage to them.Thought it worth a try, so have been trying in bulk (cheapest way to take the stuff). Boost in energy has been minor (perhaps just placebo effect). Hard to say if getting any benefit, so hard to review. Boosting metabolic rate by increasing mitochondrial output should theoretically help lose weight, but I haven't noticed that.Stuff came as advertised and is cheap compared to competing products. Don't see any impurities in the powder. One problem with powder form vs. capsules is getting it down. Alpha lipoic acid is just that, an acid, and very sour and astringent. It will burn your gullet taken straight. Acetyl L-carnitine isn't as bad, but still not great tasting. You have to mix both with something to get them down. I use about 2 ounces of frozen orange juice. Makes for a sour orange juice, but gets the job done.

this is a supplement that is needed for the parkinsons protocol treatment from ncih website, and so far it has worked for him.the treatment includes mucuna pruriens, L cysteine, alpha lipoic acid, 5http, L tyrosine, L tryptophan, multivitamins to be given at a different time, as well as i also give him fish oils, cranberry, bcaa amino acids, lysine, taurine, b complex, vit c, supergreens, boswellia powder, turmeric powder, willow bark powder, a lyme disease combination powder that has cats claw in it as he also has a severe degenerative type of arthritis.. the parkinson treatment combination is given once in am and once in pm and that seems to work for him, it has reduced his symptoms tremendously, compared to the levo / carbo synthetic version which did nothing to really help him and caused irregular heartrate for him..if you have done your research like i have on parkinson treatment protocols you will find out that the synthetic levo dopamine due to the added carbo which is the only way it can be purchased has severe side effects including involuntary trunk movements etc, and the dose is constantly having to be increased to the point that it will not work at all, many many reviews of the synthetic drug people say they wish they never started it.research mucuna pruriens and protocols for treatment, there are also some good video's on it on you tube that discuss treatment with this natural form of dopamine..this is part of the treatment to help in digestion ..so far we have had very good results with this protocol.. as his flat facial expression has improved and he is more alert and the combination of all has reduced tremors as well..I am an RN and very familiar with standard medicine and what it does.. in an emergency there is nothing better then a medical professional, butsometimes you need to research what people say worked for them..there is so much information about parkinsons and treatment options from glutithione injections etc on and on..glutithione is very important.. but the iv injections proved to only give relief for a very short while..this product is very nice yellow and has a nice smell to it.
