Best Thermostat I Have Ever Used
This review is for Emerson 1F83C-11PR Conventional (1H/1C) Programmable Thermostat, White. This is for a system with a 1-stage fan for the furnace. If you have 2-stage furnace, you will need a different model.I purchased this to replace an old White-Rodgers that I have had forever. It was still working fine, but I didn't like the small, non-backlit displace, and lack of features. I had tried a 2nd generation Google Nest Thermostat (which was causing damage to my system, because it did not function properly without a C-wire) and a couple of different higher-end, programmable (not smart), Honeywell thermostats. One of the Honeywell thermostats I didn't like the interface on, and the other died after a year. I wound up plugging back in my old White-Rodgers. Emerson and White-Rodgers merged, so I settled on this Emerson thermostat.I've been using this Emerson thermostat for a month. So far, it is the best thermostat I have used. The interface is excellent. Extremely straight forward and easy to use. The backlight and display are both excellent. I am running it off of 2 x AAA batteries. If I had a C-wire connected, I could run it off of that or that with the batteries as backup. If you connect the C-wire you can set the backlight display to always on. Speaking of setup, the initial setup was the best I have seen. The included manual was well written, and they have an excellent online walkthrough video. You can set filter replacement remind, adjust the readout temperature to more accurately represent your room, turn on/off the program feature, adjust the system for heat pump use, you can turn on an air conditioner power on delay protection feature to protect your compressor, and other features are available as well. I just touched on the main ones. If you want an easy to use thermostat, with good setup features, and excellent interface, this one is my top choice. Now, I'm hoping that I get many years of usage out of it.On a side note, a wall plate is no include. It can be purchased separately. If you have holes to cover or like the look, it is pretty inexpensive to get. I have holes from a previous thermostat that are visible, so if I may get the wall plate, unless I decide to patch & paint the area.

Excellent features and reliable
If you're not getting a smart thermostat, this one has lots of features for the money. I have a large house with two boilers so I have two of these that I self installed. You can program it various ways for different times of the day. I like the fact that you can adjust the swing setting, (How much temp. fluctuation before the unit turns on), Emerson calls it the cycle rate with 3 settings and the middle one works fine for me.It's not a touch screen but the buttons are large and well marked. I do wish the screen was a bit larger but it does backlight when you push any of the buttons and if you have a C wire, (usually it's the blue wire), you can set the backlight to be on constantly. Most importantly this thermostat holds the temperature when and where you need it to.

Excellent thermostat but Hold button should be labeled
I bought this to replace an identical one that I bought about eight years ago. It's well made, reliable, and generally easy to use, but it has two issues. The first issue is the Hold button. it's the bottom of the three buttons on the right side. It's not labeled, which is a big mistake, and it's the reason we unnecessarily bought a new thermostat. The problem with it being unlabeled is that some people in our house thought it was for turning on the display light. The thermostat is in a dark hallway, so seeing the display at night is difficult. The problem is that when someone presses this utton, it holds the temperature for 24 hours. This led me to think the old thermostat was malfunctioning, when in fact someone was just pressing the Hold button to read the display. The other issue is the manual's instructions for programming it. It's unnecessarily intimidating and confusing. There are two parts to it: configuring for your system and programming. If you have a basic system like mine (60 year old house with basic furnace, no cooling), you probably won't need to make changes for the configuration. The defaults were fine for my house. You do however need to read this part of the manual to configure for your system correctly.Programming times and temperatures is easy. I found it easier to just set program the thermostat for temperatures and times than to read the manual.Overall, it's a good enough thermostat that I've bought it twice (the first was labeled White Rodgers, but it's the same company and same thermostat. I can recommend it.

Works amazing
Easy install and it works exactly as it should. I’ve not had to worry about my thermostat and that feels GREAT!! (My very old one shut off and reset the temp to 65 degrees at nigh during winter constantly…ugh. And in summer, it reset the temp to 85 degrees… double Ugh.)

Great Thermostat for Carefree Living
We purchased the Emerson 1F83C-11PR Conventional (1H/1C) Programmable Thermostat because it was time to make our lives more comfortable now that winter is upon us. As retirees we were tired of setting and adjusting our old, non-programmable thermostat every time we got up in the morning, during the day and at night. Now "Emmy" [as we call our thermostat] takes care of these chores and always, like clockwork, keeps our home cozy all the time. We set Emmy to start the day at 6:30 am at 72 degrees (F), take it to 70 degrees (F) at 10:00 am, and finally to 68 degrees (F) at 11:00 pm. If we need to raise or lower the temperature anytime of the day we use the "temporary adjustment feature" without having to reconfigure the entire weekly schedule. The installation was straight forward, not needing an expensive "Technician" and the cost of the unit, reasonable. We are really content with Emmy and highly recommend it as it serves our needs to a "T".
