THE SECRET GARDEN starring Colin Firth, Julie Walters and Dixie Egerickx is a new take on the beloved classic novel of the same name written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Set in England during a new time period in 1947, the film follows a young orphan girl who, after being sent to live with her uncle, discovers a magical garden on the grounds of his estate.

Loved this film
I thought this was an excellent dramatisation of the book. It’s been a long time since I read it so I can’t quite say how faithful it was to the book. But I can still remember how I felt when I read the book, the harshness of the cold moors, the long echoey corridors and the beauty of the garden. I think the film captured this very well.

Mary was excellent..
I enjoyed it; I guess if you're going to do yet another adaption of "The Secret Garden" it beholds you to be different from the previous versions, and necessitates changes by definition. I found the plot believable perhaps not having the emotional balance of the original(s), but to me the original was almost a "modern day" fairy story and that emotional balance is always part of fairy stories like parables one step removed from real world . But this wasn't put forward as a "fairy story", it had more of a footing in psychology, which made it more real in a way, still with the magical element, incorporating modern day psychology and the need for love. Found it well acted

Fantastic movie!!!
I never leave reviews on movies but I had to for this one!The whole storyline, the magic of it really brought the old secret garden from 1993 back to life and yes the original one was good but honestly this was just heartwarming and a truly wonderful movie I would happily watch again it was so good!

Pleasant movie but its not the wonderful book that I know
I have read the book to my children and grandchildren. The book was so very enjoyable and moving. So for me though the movie was OK but the story was so far removed from the book. The movie was amish- mash of 'The Secret Garden' and 'Jane Eyre'.It was visually good, reasonably enjoyable but it was NOT the 'Secret Garden' I have known most of my life.

Brilliant - One to watch
This was great - the acting was outstanding from all - the visual effects by far the most beautiful of all the secret garden films out there and myself and 10 year old loved it, great movie to get lost in, wish we had bought it now instead of renting.....wish my garden looked like that! Would totally recommend.

Great Family Film
Wanted to go to cinema to see this back in March 2020, ended up not going! Glad to see this on Amazon Prime great price for the 4 of us to watch. Story predictable, but sometimes that is what you need. Good range of cinematography devices.

DO NOT BUY, will not play in UK
I have just received this blu-ray disk of The Secret Garden and it will not play on my blu-ray player as it says it is not compatible for this region. This disk is for sale on this UK Amazon site and doesn't mention any region code or country at all in its description so has been wrongly sold to me. I cannot understand how other reviews from customers in the UK do not mention this or managed to get it to play. I am now trying to be able to return it and get my money back.Update 21 Nov 20: The wording has now been changed to show a region code AFTER I wrote to them BUT as you can't play it in the UK why are they still selling it? I will wait to see if they will refund me as I feel sure they will in the circumstances due to the Amazon refund policy - the main reason I trust to buy on Amazon.

The secret garden
The film was good but didn't enjoy it as much as the other versions I felt it cut a lot of the book out which was conducive to the story I gave it four stars for this reason I did like it though although I wasn't over whelmed.
