I recently discovered that my depression medication wasn't going to be affordable on my insurance anymore and I was devastated. $1,800.00 a month for 30 pills is ridiculous to ask someone to pay for medication that is essential for their wellbeing. I'd been on Wellbutrin for 15 plus years and was terrified at how I was going to cope without it. Read online that taking the SAMe and Natural Balance 5-HTP was the best thing to combat depression in people that couldn't get their medication anymore. I've been taking it for a month and honestly I don't think I could've gotten anything better. I don't feel all that different than when I was on the Wellbutrin and am hoping that this continues for the rest of my life. It's seems a little expensive (but in all honesty only about $10 more than I was paying monthly for the Wellbutrin) but I'm definitely going to stick with it. I'd recommend this to anyone who is having symptoms from depression. I haven't had any side effects and am handling things pretty well for someone with a lot of stress right now so I'm saying this stuff really works.

Took for a few months but then stopped. Started again and wow noticed a BIG difference....First of all my joints were less stiff, I can walk better and get up out of sitting or laying down position much easier...so, it works for joints. i am much improved!!!!.....Next my depression has lifted quite a bit, and this is only on 200 mg....no stomach upset and I have IBS, so this is the ONLY one that is pure, as magnesium and mannitol are horrible for me to take...I love this stuff....be aware it has a weird smell, but I have not found that to be an issue....believe me, this has helped me smile and live life again..Its subtle but effective..In a few months I will try to increase to 400 mg...I go slow with all products because of stomach issues, but I could stay like this forever and hope it keeps working......its wonderful and worth the price......ps: I have tried every antidepressant on the market and none work as well as this for me. I have suffered my whole life...this is a blessing.

I started taking this last week after getting genetic testing for MTHFR, and I'm a heterozygous carrier. I have changed nothing else in my routine other than taking 200mg a day. I have taken it in the morning sometimes, and I've taken it at night. It has not given me an upset stomach or mattered if I took it at night or day (didn't mess with sleep or energy during the day at all). I immediately have noticed a huge change in energy, improved mood, and just overall feeling bouncy and upbeat. I am so happy for myself that I found this; the improvement has been unmistakable. This is how life is meant to be lived. I can clearly seen now that no amount of "positive thinking" can replace a hormonal or nutrient deficiency. I am so glad I have figured out exactly what my body was lacking and was able to provide it the support it needed.

Hard to give 5 stars considering the price, but I don't know of another Sam-e available that doesn't come with titanium or some other worrisome filler, so price can't be compared, and its good that PE makes this an option for the consumer. Next: if mild depression is your concern, check out 5-HTP - way cheaper, and more effective at just 50mg in my experience, and give me great sleep. Whether you take Sam-e or not, I would recommend a high-quality Vit. B that contains folate (not folic acid) such as PE or Douglas Labs, which alone may increase your Sam-e production (fish helps too). If you do supp with Sam-e, I'd suggest this brand, and maximize it by taking it on a TOTALLY empty stomach in the morning before eating (as opposed to between daily meals), then waiting 30+ minutes before eating, and also taking a high-quality Vit. B complex w/folate (whenever).

Final Update: I used the entire bottle and I did not have any stomach issues or otherwise. However, I didn't find it to be any more effective than the products that cost 1/3 the price. I think this is a good product for those who experience issues with some of the fillers such as mannitol or magnesium stearate. It's great to have an option that is free of those ingredients. But for me, I will be using the less expensive products because they work for me, and don't cause stomach issues.Update: I was so upset about not being able to use this supplement that I decided to make absolutely, positively sure that it was SAMe that was causing my problems. So I began the process of definitively discovering what was causing my stomach pain. I won't go into all the details, but the actual culprit wasn't SAMe related at all! Nor was it mannitol or magnesium stearate. Turns out, it was the bee pollen! I am so happy! I have tested out taking this supplement on a completely empty stomach. I took no other supplements, food, or drink. I waited 1.5 hours to see what happened, and nothing did! So this supplement is a GO for me and I'm very excited about it! Not only that, I've figured out a way to take the bee pollen without the stomach ache!I will update again in a few weeks because I'm very interested to see if the performance of this supplement is noticeably better than the SAMe costing one third the price.Original Review: I'm just sad, grief-stricken really. Generally speaking, SAMe performs well for me. I feel so much better when I take it, both mentally and physically. I've taken numerous different brands of SAMe, but I get very uncomfortable stomach aches from it. After doing a lot of research and reading, I wondered if my stomach aches were because of the mannitol and/or the magnesium stearate contained in all the other brands I had tried. I read about the purity of this brand and the fact that it does not include those two ingredients. So even though this costs three times the amount of the other brands, I decided to try it, hoping greatly that it would finally be the product I could use happily. But unfortunately, it is not. As soon as I took it, I had a very unpleasant stomach ache that lasted for three hours. The next day, I ate a small snack before taking it, and I had the stomach ache for one hour. This is just not the sort of thing I can tolerate on a day to day basis. I can only surmise that my stomach ache issues are directly related to the SAMe itself, rather than the fillers and extraneous ingredients. I wish this would have worked out for me, and although it didn't, don't let that discourage you from trying it. If your problem is related to the mannitol or magnesium stearate in other brands, this could be your silver bullet!
